What type of tripods/stands do you all use for these shots?

looking at giving it ago in the coming weeks/months but want to get a small enough tripod or whatever is best to use so I can start at a good level

Thanks

Also,

Am I right in thinking, manual focus, set to around the 6 yard line
How wide of a lens is best? would my 17-55 work?
remote release, and set to fire when I hold release

The Trek-tech Optera 230 is excellent, but WEX no longer stock it. You can find it on the web though.

As for settings, mine are:

Manual focus (6yd box is about right)
Av mode wide open +1 EC (to allow for the sky affecting the exposure)
ISO as needed for 1/800th+
High speed continuous
RF602 Rx with appropriate cable
RF602 Tx on the hot shoe of my short lens camera*

* using this method you end up with a hell of a lot of dross, but also some interesting goalie reactions. The key is to remember to keep shooting longer than normal with the short lens camera to capture the full sequence.

Thanks for th einfo

I will take a look at those tripods, they look just the job

What sort of wide lens do you use?

Am I right in thinking that with the triggers its a case of every time you take a pic, the camera on tripod does aswell? I have a separate remote that i had planning on using but your method maybe the way to go

I use a 17-40 and a 30D, then downside of which is that I have to have the camera about 3-5m back from the goal to get the whole thing in (or work on an angle), but get better IQ as a result.

Regarding the triggers: spot on, that's exactly how it works. It means no faffing about with separate control units.

Thanks for that

Just another question

Is the cable that connects to camera go into the 10 pin connector?

Reason I ask is because I have triggers just wondering if all I need to get going is the tripod and cable now

Thanks for the tips to, seen some of your pics and they are great

The RF602 connects via the PC port, but you have to buy an additional cable (£5ish) to use it as a shutter trigger.

TBH I'd look at the new RF603's which are Tx/Rx, but you'll still need to buy the cable for those as well.

I will take a look around and see what i can source

Just need to weigh up everything, I may decide to just use my wireless remote first to get things going to see how I find that before investing in even more kit

 what Mark said.
I don't have 3-5 m behind the goal, so I use a 10-22 on a trek-tech. I also have a spirit level thingy as I'm a bit of a div getting things level!!
It all went pete tong on Saturday - set it up for the bright overcast at the start of the match, then it clouded over and pee'd down (got rain on the lens filter), then the wind got up and blew stuff around, including my 'waterproof' cover which obscured part of the shot, then the sun came out, blisteringly bright. At half time discovered that focus was off, may be I nudged the ring, who knows. :bang:

Upshot is, in changeable conditions its a bit hit and miss!
