Hi everyone need a bit of help if you could.

My best friend recently took his own life and I have some pictures of him from our wedding album I'd like to copy and give to his mother. They are over 20 years old, the pictures.

I have a Z8 and 24-120 F4, 85 F1.8 and 70-200 F2.8. I also have an OM set up, OM1 with 8-25 F4, 12-40.F2.8 ii, 40-150 F2.8 and the 90 mm macro.

I was wondering if I could use something I have to take a high resolution image (46 MP from Z8 or say 80 MP tripod hi Res mode with the om) and then upscale it in lightroom or similar.

Could I mount the 90 mm macro on a tripod and take a hi Res image and then edit that in LR?

The wedding album is all sealed and I can't access the actual pictures without destroying the pages they are in.

Any suggestions as how best to go about this?

The family don't have many pictures of him as he was camera shy / hated having his picture taken.

Any guidance is appreciated

Thank you.

If it helps at all.

I've copied a lot of old film photos using either my MFT cameras or my Sony A7 using whatever lens would best fill the frame. I haven't upscaled any but I'm happy with the results. When editing you obviously can't do too much with the sharpness and colous etc but you can remove spots and scratches, but I've also left some just as they are for the age and character.

Just on upscaling. I have A3 prints I'm happy with which were taken with my old DSLR's which were 6.3 and 8.2mp.

Commiserations. Yes, I'd have a go with the macro. The problem will be the lighting / avoiding reflections.

Yes I can't imagine the wedding images we had from 20 + years ago were shot with 46 MP stacked sensors lol

Sorry to hear this, macro lens, softbox or large window.
Softbox and light will give you more control, light from both sides (best for even lighting, reflector may work ok on photos) at around 45 degrees to avoid reflections and keep the camera 90 degress (again to avoid glare and reflections), everything needs to be as flat as possible.
Hope this helps.
