Taking photos at Twickenham?

I noticed that there was a thread about the laws/rules governing photography at football matches.

It looks like I'll be going to Twickenham for the EDF Cup Final later this year.

Does anyone know if they are 'camera friendly' there?

Thanks in advance, Mike

Can't imagine they would be 'difficult' to P&S snapshooters (those whose flashes you see going off in the stands...LOL!), but if you go there with a serious camera, a serious lens, and a serious tripod – all of which you will need to make even half-way decent photos – it could be another story! After all, those photos may be used/usable for publication/print. Remember, a football stadium is not a public area. So the owner sets the rules!

Here you go, this is what I checked out for when I got to Twickenham:

Twickenham Ground Rules

This is the point where it mentions photography:

15 Except for photography for bona fide private non-commercial uses, the possession or operation of recording or transmission equipment of any kind is prohibited within the Stadium. This includes without limitation photography, filming, audio or other recording or transmission, or the compilation or transmission of data, save with the specific authorisation of the RFU, such authorisation is hereby given in respect of photography for bona fide private non-commercial uses unless and until the RFU notifies otherwise.

Hope this helps

I have also just spoken to a member of staff in customer services and they said that an SLR can be seen as a professional camera (!!!) as they are expensive and not really a "happy-snap" camera

Give them a ring on 0870 405 2000 and ask if you can speak to someone else and see what answer you get

Many thanks!

Well, I guess this could be a bone of contention. How do you define "bona fide private non-commercial use'?

Technically I guess I couldn't even post any picture on this forum since that would make the pictures non-private?

Is this worthy of a subject of its own here perhaps?

Twickenham are pretty camera friendly, ie assuming you have a media pass which is approved by Twickenham and you have someone from a RFU club sponsoring your application, or you work for the press, then you will be fine.

I am hoping to go to the EDF final as well, so might see you there! :D

Added : if you are in the crowd (sorry I thought you were going as media) then you will be fine.

Mmmmm, it is worded very cleverly!!

I'm just going to take my P&S cos we're going up early and hitting the pubs round, so don't really want to take my nice, expensive camera round with me when I'm tiddled!

That's interesting, how does that work? I could get my own club to sort something out for other games up there?

I might go for the pub and P&S approach too... No need for aggro from some over zealous stewart, and a Guinness or eight is always nice with the rugby... :)

I would take that as meaning that you don't intend to profit from it, or that you're not taking the pictures as part of a job.

I don't think posting here would break any laws. Its the same as printing a picture and framing it on the wall at home. You wouldn't be expected to take the frame down every time the door bell goes, nor would the law expect the same from you.

I would say that as long as your intent is purely as a hobby, then you have nothing to worry about.

If you shoot officially for one of the Division 1 clubs (preferably one of the teams in the final) then that would help get a media pass though you would need to be RFU accredited. Obviously they would boot you out if you turned up with a P&S

 Don't quite think that Kent 2 counts then :lol::lol:

Just wanted to take a camera to record our day (ie get embarrassing pics of everyone sozzled) so my P&S will be fine
