Finally got a chance to try the new camera out tomorrow at the club, where running a 6 a side tournament with 24 teams entered.I have my canon 1100d sigma 70-300 and the standard lens that came with the camera. What lens would i be best using for this considering i will be quite close to the action and anyone got any tips for me,i no they say sit down low but i can't tomorrow due to the pitches been that close together.

While i'm here before the start of the season we always take team photo ect, what lens would i use of should i have a wide angle lens due to the squad size

use a wideish angle for the group shot - don't get to close so avoid distortion ,i used a 50mm on a full frame often for football group shots
take the group shots before the games
then during the game, i assume you will be on the touch line , I suspect the 70-200 and 50mm would be good - dont forget to include some groups with the coach, lineman and referee

never did do 6 aside, usually a full side playing
is this outdoor 6 aside ?
and is it a full size pitch ?

it's outdoor and pitches 60x40 so not a lot of ground to cover

that's a lot smaller than a standard pitch 104m × 68m - I would expect the 70-200 will give some cracking shots

Hope you have agood time today, I'd take both lenses with me and swap over / have a play around with what you need.

The 70-300 will be great for getting into the action and your 18-55 (presume this was the standard lens) will be good for wider shots, more ambience shots, maybe stand in a corner and try to take a shot of everyone playing ...

Enjoy yourself...
