Hi there, I'll be buying my first DSLR shortly,Most likely a Nikon D3100 I'm due to go on Holiday to Sharm El Sheikh at the end of May and I'd be really grateful for some hints and tips?
I've heard a few things about sand being a real problem etc
Thanks :)

Sand with wind behind it can be a bitch on the front element of your lens - i'd advise a clear UV or skylight filter (with maybe a spare depending on how long you are going for)

apart from that try not to change lenses in sandy environmentes and if you have to sheild the camera from the wind with your body because the last thing you need is sand on the sensor

Take all your gear in your hand luggage, not checked. Take lots of smaller cards and swap them regularly so if one goes down you've not lost an entire trip's worth. Shoot in raw and jpeg, even if you don't know how to or want to edit the raws when you do learn in the future you'll be grateful you've got them to go back to.

Oooh thanks, would never have thought of taking a few memory cards, great idea :)

Don't forget your camera when you head to the airport... Or your passport!

How I wish I'd known to do that when I went to India and then Peru last year :'(:'(
