I want some black and white images, but should take the images in black and white, or should I convert a colour image?

This will be indoors with studio lighting and of people.

Thanks for your help.

Personally I'd shoot B&W if that's what you want out of the session. You will have better visibility of the shadows and texture than if you see and shoot in colour then modify. But I'm not a studio or portrait person nor pro, so just an opinion.

Set your camera to B&W if you want to see the result, but save the images as RAW then you have the full colour file to work from for finer conversion if you wish after.

Not in the studio, but that's what I often do if I am out and about and in a mood for monochrome.

Alternatively, if you're really serious about it, invest in a Leica M Monochrom :)

Hehehe - totally amateur im afraid

Gav already said the shoot B+W but with RAW you have the colour option but can "see" the B+W on camera. My prefered method for converting is Silver Effx a photoshop plug-in, or Topaz B+W is a close second.

That said I do sometimes just shoot B+W in camera. If I'm taking pics for myself and I know I wont need the colour, I'll just turn it to B+W.
Having shot B+W for years I know roughly what it'll look like anyway.

Fuji cameras have film simulation bracketing which should allow you to get colour and B&W versions of the same shot. I usually shoot in colour and convert afterwards (despite shooting Fuji!)
