Looking for a relatively sturdy table top tripod. I've just bought a handheld 3D scanner and there are times where you want to mount the scanner in one position whilst the subject being scanned is being turned on a turntable. Has to cope with circa 750g +_ and should go from maybe 15 cm to about 40cm.
 
Have a look at SpeedGraphic as they have a range that looks much better quality than you'll find on Amazon. My personal favourite is the Novoflex Basic Ball and mine must be over 25 years old by now.

I actually have one of these sat in a cupboard at home(along with the normal length screw in tripod legs). None of it gets any use, so if anyone is interested, let me know ;)
 
Opps shown one wrong height requirements so deleted post on the Moman tripod

comes with out ball head but I also bought the pan head Payload of 176 Lbs/80Kg . With ball head about £70+

I have the Moman and it is a sturdy 'beast', I have used it with my Gimbal head in a hide. The red ring you mention means it can also be used with the legs splayed flat out and in the case I mention it sat nicely on the hide shelf.

I have also used it for Zoom chat with a mobile phone holder.

But in regard to @andrewc request I wonder if a small travel tripod with the legs closed up will give him the height range he seeks?

12+ years ago I had a very small tripod. It wasn't expensive and it was actually pretty sturdy and would be ideal. I didn't really have a use for it back then, so sold it on. Now wish I kept it... Just can't remember the manufacturer. It would have been bought probably from Jessops or LCE back in the day.
