Yes
My closest friend has cancer with 6 months to live unless chemo can help extend it to a maximum of 18.
Today he is having his first dose, wearing his special socks that say 'Go away Cancer but in fewer and possibly not forum -friendly words

I'd like to get a T Shirt made for his next session but am in need of inspiration, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.
His youngest son is only 12 and as he will be wearing it in hospital it maybe shouldn't be too crude.

Also, for anyone who has been in this situation any ideas of what we might be able to do to help would be so helpful - we have sent him books, an mp3 player full of music, shower stuff, pampering stuff for his wife etc and are arranging visits and weekend breaks.

Thanks.

Firstly, sorry to hear the news and I wish him well, here's hoping the extended time period has been underestimated.

Depending on his humour, I always remember Barry Sheene towards the end of his battle saying something like "I don't like cancer, but it's growing on me!" which I thought both summed up the mans sense of humour and lifted the mood of everyone around too.

Thank you Andrew, and as a biker who met Barry Sheene once that sounds like just the sort of thing that he and all around will laugh at - much appreciated !

Sorry to hear about your friend. If either of you are struggling, please do reach out to the various services that are on offer. There are lots of places you (and he and his family) can be signposted to if need be.
You sound like you're doing a massive amount already. Just be there for him and his family would be the most helpful. Maybe help out with practical stuff.
I know through work that many people undergoing Chemo or Radiotherapy, it's a grind that takes it out of you. Not just the actual treatment, but the amount of time they need to commit to the treatment. (Travelling everyday etc). It can really overwhelm many people especially if they don't have enough familial and friend support around them to take the load of the non-treatment day to day stuff.
Meals still need to be cooked, shopping bought, bills paid etc. I think picking up some of the practical stuff may really help them.

As for the tshirt suggestion, I love your thinking! (And I think the Barry Sheene one was funny)
I couldn't think of anything myself, but a quick google reveals the following slogans which you/he might approve of :

"Secretly hoping Chemo gives me superpowers"
"Chemo. Finally a weight loss plan that works!"
"Real men wear pink" (Obviously with the Tickled Pink stuff)

And some specific to breast cancer so may not be applicable :
"Yes these are fake (The real ones tried to kill me)"
"Im here for the boobs"
"Hakuna Ma-Ta-Tas"

but my favourite so far
"Be nice to me, I HAVE CHEMO BRIAN BRAN BRIAIN THINKY THING!"

I also thought this was pretty cool.

Like everyone here I am sorry to hear about your friend.
Perhaps
"Life sucks, then you get Cancer" might put it into perspective, or maybe it's too morose and could be taken the wrong way and people wouldn't get the "joke".

I've stuck with the less polite version on the patch on my leather jacket. A VERY straight laced friend of ours who lost her husband to cancer a few years ago wears her "Copulate with" Cancer socks with pride - she won't say the word but fully agrees with the sentiment that the expletive expresses.

All the best to the OP's friend.
