Couple of questions for all you gurus out there;

1) Will the 1.4 T/C work with the above lens ?
2) If so, what sort of results does it produce ? (Any examples ?)
3) Is it a decent combination ?

Thanks in advance.

Russ.

Hi Russ

SOME 1.4x TC's will fit, you need to be looking at the ones that do not have an element that protrudes into the lens. This rules out the Canon ones, I think you will be OK with the Kenko ones (Not the pro range).

Results - I don't know.

But I don't think it is a decent combination - you will loose AF unless the convertor is one that does not report it's presence to the camera. Even then you are asking your camera autofocus to work outside it's normal operating parameter - will be fine at F4 (70mm ish) but get to 300mm AF will be terrible.

Yeah don't waste your pennies...

The 70-300 IS is a good lens, remarkable in fact if you think about how little it costs... don't mutilate it :D

Richard,
Thanks for the response - think I'm going to have to save the pennies for some nice L glass :gag:
Russ.

The 300mm F4 IS takes a convertor nicely and is very sharp / excellent IQ.
Or there is the trusty 100-400mm L IS - had one of these a while back it it is a very good lens.

But yes, the initial outlay hurts - although you will never feel like it wasn't money well spent!
