Yes
I know my FZ 200 is a good bridge camera but could someone tell me if they think that a Canon SX 60 would give a sharper , better picture? This is with both cameras taking the same picture on Auto mode.
Mick.

It would seem that the SX60 was a bit of a "fail"!!!, compared to its previous incarnation...the SX50.

Is the SX50 better than the FZ200??...well. the SX50/60 has more reach/zoom...but longer zoom lenses on bridge cameras, does not always mean better, sharper, higher IQ images, than cameras such as the FZ200, with its modest 24 x optical zoom.

Thanks for the reply, that's the SX 60 out! I just feel like a change but don't want a drop in picture quality. The FZ 200 gives me better overall results than the Nikon D 60 that I changed from, (and 300mm was the longest lens I could afford at the time) and the modest 600 mm is really quite enough I suppose. I've had a year rest from photography due to my wife's illness and subsequent death and I'm trying to restart my life with taking photos being my main interest. Incidentally, do any of you remember the cameras I started with? A FED 4 and a LUBITEL?

Sorry for your loss, but getting back into photography can only be a good thing for you.
Ive never heard of a FED 4 or LUBITEL!!

I have heard some good things about the SX50HS, so if this cameras IQ is on par with the FZ200, then the 50 x optical zoom could be interesting? Im sure a secondhand SX50HS could be bought for approx £150. Its a camera i thought about buying once, because it can focus extremely close, which could be good for my macro.

There is another option for more zoom/reach for your FZ200, by way of adding a teleconverter. But you will need lens adapters and step down/step up rings.
I use a couple of teleconverters for my FZ50/FZ28/FZ150 cameras. Those being the Olympus 1.7x and the Nikon TC-E15ED 1.5x. But with these teleconverters, there can be some vignetting at the lower end of the zoom. The very best quality teleconverter you can use on your FZ200 is the rare Nikon TC-E17ED 1.7x !!! but chances of finding one of these beauties is slim at best! Canon also made a nice 1.5x teleconverter, but again, hard to locate.

Note - There are numerous teleconverters on the market, but most of them offer poor image quality(IQ)...the Nikon ones ive mentioned above are the best, they are far superior than most, if not all other teleconverters...but only those early models. Even the modern Nikon teleconveters cannot match the older TC-E15ED and TC-E17ED's.

Michael, comparing images from both the fz200 and sx 60. Dont buy the 60 its rubbish.

Thanks Paul,I've ordered an FZ 72 on impulse! Probably live to regret it! Those cameras were Russian and cheap, the Fed being a take off of a Leica and the Lubitel, I've forgotten the name for the type
but you opened a lid on top and looked down into the viewer! It was very cheap but quite good. Two and a quarter inch square negs.
Dave, thanks for the advice, I've got a feeling it might apply to the FZ 72 as well but my wife and I both had good results with our FZ 45 and 200 cameras so fingers crossed! I think that Lubitel was a Twin Lens Reflex?
