Thanks for the reply, that's the SX 60 out! I just feel like a change but don't want a drop in picture quality. The FZ 200 gives me better overall results than the Nikon D 60 that I changed from, (and 300mm was the longest lens I could afford at the time) and the modest 600 mm is really quite enough I suppose. I've had a year rest from photography due to my wife's illness and subsequent death and I'm trying to restart my life with taking photos being my main interest. Incidentally, do any of you remember the cameras I started with? A FED 4 and a LUBITEL?
Sorry for your loss, but getting back into photography can only be a good thing for you.
Ive never heard of a FED 4 or LUBITEL!!
I have heard some good things about the SX50HS, so if this cameras IQ is on par with the FZ200, then the 50 x optical zoom could be interesting? Im sure a secondhand SX50HS could be bought for approx £150. Its a camera i thought about buying once, because it can focus extremely close, which could be good for my macro.
There is another option for more zoom/reach for your FZ200, by way of adding a teleconverter. But you will need lens adapters and step down/step up rings.
I use a couple of teleconverters for my FZ50/FZ28/FZ150 cameras. Those being the Olympus 1.7x and the Nikon TC-E15ED 1.5x. But with these teleconverters, there can be some vignetting at the lower end of the zoom. The very best quality teleconverter you can use on your FZ200 is the rare Nikon TC-E17ED 1.7x !!! but chances of finding one of these beauties is slim at best! Canon also made a nice 1.5x teleconverter, but again, hard to locate.
Note - There are numerous teleconverters on the market, but most of them offer poor image quality(IQ)...the Nikon ones ive mentioned above are the best, they are far superior than most, if not all other teleconverters...but only those early models. Even the modern Nikon teleconveters cannot match the older TC-E15ED and TC-E17ED's.
