Swan killed for a selfie

More tabloid nonsense.

Wasn't the dolphin later revealed to have been dead before it was photographed?

Dragging a swan ashore wouldn't kill it. They're tough as old boots.

About as tasty, too.:D

Why people think this sort of behaviour is acceptable is beyond me. Luckily there are more sensible people than idiots, just a shame the actions of the idiotic few can ruin things for everyone else!

But the report is in the Metro................say no more

Though the angles are not good, her handling of the Swan could well have damaged its wing.....but kill it outright I would have thought very unlikely. Having said that, looking at the two pictures I get the impression its wing was clipped i.e. limited flight potential and commonly done to some waterfowl or non native birds in open pens in 'zoos' here in the UK.

But her grabbing and manhandling it is beyond the pale! :( They are tough birds and and as evidenced when they do the Swan upping count on the Thames they are taken out of the water in a properly controlled manner with no harm done to them ~ other than their dignity.

Swans should be careful around people, don't they know a person can break a swan's wing with their arm ;-)

I'm kinda surprised that dragging a swan like that would kill it. I'd also expect that they can handle theirselves in that situation. She's a idiot.

Another article states;

"Witnesses said the swan 'remained motionless on the beach after the encounter', and later died, Macedonia Online reports."

It could have easily died of heart failure or even a broken neck, there's one photo of her holding it and dragging it by the neck.

They're pretty sensitive creatures despite their apparent toughness and it should never have been handled, let alone the way this cretin handled it. And all for a selfie. We really are parasites on this planet...

No, it was still alive when found. It had become separated from her pod and had washed into very shallow water. She was very weak but still alive.

If you watch the video, she is moving slowly and trying to swim in the water, her tail is clearly flipping. In fact, to be fair, when she was first found some people were putting her back in the water and trying to encourage her to swim away but then someone grabs it out of the water for some photos.....

I just can't fathom why people do this. Even if the swan was dead (it doesn't look like it to me though) or dying; why on Earth would someone want their photo holding it up splashed around the Internet?

I mean, I know why Trophy Hunters might do that type of thing, even if I don't like it. I understand their reasoning despite not agreeing with it. Ok at least they killed it, so I guess that makes them feel proud in some way.

But why would someone drag a sick swan out of a lake to pose with? It's not only illogical it's just plain weird and a bit creepy.

They'll be scraping up roadkill and using it as earrings next.

I guess it's just a symptom of our disassociation from the natural world. I do have hope that this type of behaviour is just a passing fad, and it will soon be universally scorned as the acts of only the feeble minded or the clinically insane.

this cannot be true there is no way that that woman can handle or even get near a healthy Swan

It would have at least knocked her over - is the photo real or was the Swan dead when she pulled it out - even so lifting it with one hand - it would weigh over 12kgs would not be that easy

Apparently she dragged it from the water onto the shore. The swans there are used to tourists and are quite docile which was why she managed to get close enough to drag it. According to reports It struggled quite badly and appeared distressed but the woman wouldn't let go.

It seems it was very much healthy until this POS dragged it from the water.

how could she do that, have you ever tried to get near a Mute Swan
As above, they're used to people there, but I wasn't there (edited after posting for more detail).

Witnesses say she grabbed it and dragged it out, and it was perfectly normal and heathy beforehand.

Look at meeee.I'm a mindless f*****g idiot. Cooool.

ETA

As for the dolphin thing.

Look at meeee.
No look at meeee.
No meeeee.

Haha - we're all mindless f*****g idiots. Brilliant!

There always have been mindless f*****g idiots of course.

It's just that now they have the means to broadcast their mindless f*****g idiocy to the world. They are such mindless f*****g idiots that they don't realise everyone else thinks they are mindless f*****g idiots.

Just in case anyone is in any doubt, they are mindless f*****g idiots.

The very post you quoted from explains that.

I don't believe she could have "pulled it out of the water"

so for me it does not explain "that"

explain to me how that woman could pull a healthy Swan out of the water, particularly whilst holding her shopping bag?

The swans are used to people...they are pretty socialised.
Plus, the swan is far from a large example.
Swans strength is in the wings. Grab a wing and it's fairly incapacitated.
I don't think women are the weak flowers you seem to think they are.

You can see her dragging it from the water in the photos?

There's no conspiracy here, just some stupid a@@hole who didn't care she hurt and subsequently killed an innocent animal for the sake of a crap photo of her ugly mug.

To be fair to jim its relatively easy to get hold of a swan ... all this they can break a man's arm stuff is b*****ks (and comes from the force their wing exerts when flying) - when I worked in milton keynes they used to regularly land in the overflow sluice from N Willen lake which was too short for them then to get a run up to take off to get out again so one of our regular tasks as rangers was to climb down and grab then and throw them out ... apart from the high likelihood of them crapping on you this was in no way difficult once you got passed thinking it would be

get down off that fence Simon... say what you really think about them :) (no, don't actually... the swearie filter may have a seizure...)

Woman is an idiot but that swan must have been ill/dying. I had a swan invade our lodge at centre parcs one year, it didn't leave until it had bitten my hand (left bruising) and I'd given it a good slapping !
