I think Ive been misinterpreting the data. I always thought that if it was a deep red then that would indicate a good chance of a sunset. But it just shows cloud cover.

And to get the sunset it still need to be clear to the west.

It's supposed to be if it's red on your location you should see a good sunrise/set from that location. But it relies on forecast data, and weather changes rapidly. This morning was a red forecast, but the sunrise was pretty poor because a lot more cloud had built up on the horizon.
