sunny day gave rainbow effect on image

how did this happen? how can I avoid it? it was only on this one image out of 30 odd I shot in similar conditions today... I actually quite like it but if askied would prefer it not to be there.

If your hadn't have said that it was the only one out of 30, i would have suggested it was a dirty mark that may have occured after trying to clean the lens.

I know me too, but before and after shots are without the rainbow.. :shrug: tis freak of nature I tells ya.

Yes, it's definately flare (caused by light striking the lens).
Use a lens hood to reduce the risk
