Hi, could anyone recommend a good wide angle lens for my 6d, my previous camera was a 60D and I have a great Sigma 10-22mm f3.5 which was great with the 60d but not good with the 6d due to vignetting...I am not technical and don't no the why's and wherefores.

Also probably looking around the same price range as the 10-22mm ..Any ideas ?
Thanks for reading..

From Canon, 17-40, 16-35 or go even wider with the Sigma 12-24mm. It's a beast :D

I have the Sigma 12-24mm and an older Canon 20-35mm.

I think you have to mount one on your camera and look through it to see how wide it is, on FF. It's a lot wider than the 10-22mm on APS-C.

Be aware the 12-24 will bring its own issues when using filters.

To a point you can use filters and indeed people do although I don't bother with them any more, even if you couldn't it may just be a price worth paying for a zoom that wide and with so little (none really) distortion. It really is an amazing lens and on APS-C better than the Canon 10-22mm in my experience.

PS. Just thought of another lens...

There's an old 19-35mm that has quite a fan base. It was badged as Cosine, Tamron and others as far as I remember. I think they go for round about £100. At the time I bought my 20-35mm I couldn't find a 19-35mm so I paid a bit more for the Canon but I didn't mind too much as the Canon is very compact and light and has USM.

I would defo go with the canon 17-40 f4 L, i used to own one and now regret selling it, but i will get another one day.

Can only echo earlier suggestions.

The Sigma 12-24 is extremely (insanely?!) wide on FF and isn't light. Filter use might be an issue too (it is possible but might be awkward). The Cosina/Vivitar etc. 19-35 is a cheaper option and has a standard 77mm filter thread but does distort quite a bit at the wide end. As you probably already know, to get the same width as you're used to from the 10-20 on a Canon crop, you'll need a 16-32 or similar on FF.

Thank you Kerry and Nod, I think I am going to try out my friends 17-40 to see the difference. I really do like sound of 12-24 and if it wasn't for the filter thing, I would snap it up, maybe even get it also at later date, but I am slowly collecting Lee filters and seem at the moment to taking lots of seascape shots. Going to have a nosy at the 16-32 now.
Thank you everyone or your comments I really do appreciate it. :)

16-35 all the way if you can afford it, Although I hardly ever use it at wide apertures (unless I'm doing a milky way shot etc) but failing that, stick with the 17-40 on FF, it's cheap and does what it says on the tin :D

The 12-24mm is a stand out lens on either APS-C or FF for a couple of reasons...

On APS-C it's better (IMVHO) than the highly regarded Canon 10-22mm (I sold mine and replaced it with the 12-24mm) as it has less distortion (none really) and less vignetting. Of course it's not as wide as the Canon and every mm matters at this end of the field of view.

On FF it's a different beast and is very wide and you really do have to think about what your shooting and take care with composition but when you get it right what can match it? One good use for this lens is indoor photography where 17mm just wouldn't be enough. I've taken lots of indoor shots on FF at 12mm.

The Sigma 12-24mm together with the Sigma 85mm f1.4 were the main reasons I changed from APS-C to FF and they are both stunning lenses. Having said that, 12-24mm on FF isn't for everyone but if you shoot indoor or are creative enough to take advantage it's a lens that's almost (and maybe is...) in a class of it's own.

How about the Samyang 14mm 2.8. It's only around £320 brand new, build quality is really good and it's works perfectly on the 6D, I use one with mine and love it. It is a manual lens though so you have to change the aperture with the ring on the lens and focus manually. But for the money it's an absolute gem of a lens.

I've got one, set it at f8 and it's got a huge depth of field, however it can be soft at the edges. Great lens for the money, I got mine at focus for £265
