Yes
Went to my one best friends weddings at the begining of the month up'd a few photos taken with the e900, someone really likes this shot

arch.jpg

and asked if I could get rid of the flappy suit of the wedding photographer? I sucked in my breath in the manner of tradesmen worldwide and said it'll be tricky but I'll give it a go. I've tried cloning, different crops none of which seemed to work very well, any sugestions folks? Should I just give it up and put a voodoo :gag: curse the fool who got in my shot?

If the voodoo curse doesn't work I think cloning is gonna be your best bet, but you'll need to be very patient and do it very carefuly to avoid any dodgy pattern appearing. I had a fiddle but it's tricky with a 600px high image as there isn't a lot to work with.

Where's the cloning king when you need him eh?

for once having a part of the image blown is going to be helpfull, it'be easier to match the white blown wood and guess the grain than have to get the colour right too :)

Had a quick play, dunno how good it is though

wood at the bottom prob needs more work?

That's pretty good ppp! Needs a little cleaning up, but a good ways there! Would undoubtedly be easier full size.

Unfortunately I'm not the man for the job. My best attempt is perhaps spottable. Maybe. By Reuters.

Two other options one tight crop and one with a different wood effect.

from the mouths of babes ...... My mum (not a babe chronolgically but in turms of photoshop an infant) just asked if I had any other shots of the archway.

I showed her a the only other one I've got a wider shot her sugetion "make it bigger, twist it a bit and copy the bits you need. Tranlasted into photoshop increase canvas size paste as new layer free rotate and sample all layers for cloning may just work .......... tomorrow, sleep time now

Writing this so I don't forget what to do lol

PPP efforts are much better than any I've got previously :)

What you've got to remember is that people looking at the photo will be seeing the bride and groom and will not be scrutinising the wood round the door, we are looking at this from a completely different angle to family and friends who will be viewing it, if you had posted up one of the altered images (eg the last conversion) without an explanation I doubt anyone would have commented.

You might also want to clone out the 'Service in Progress' sign. ;)

Damn that photographer getting in the way like that! :D

Good cloning job there by PPP, although the repetitive horizontal lines are a bit of a give-away. But why give them something the official tog has done anyway and he has the eye contact with the bride?

It's a lovely pose and the nice dark background lends itself to a crop. Maz has the right idea. Just another one for you...

It would look the nuts in a suitable frame, either rectangular with a nice matte cut for it, or even a nice oval frame. They'll love it. ;)

You cannot do this shot without the arch! In my wedding experience this is a shot brides will go for. Add to that the romantic feel Marianne has given it and we're on our way to an absolute winner!

To my mind it matters not (in this instance) where the brides eyes are looking [might have been better if she was looking at her new husband though!]

What I would do is carry out the cloning to eliminate the flappy thing and then apply the affect Marianne has achieved as it well lessen any errors in the cloning.

You simply cannot lose the archway, it would be criminal!

I think you're somewhat over-stating your case there Barry. ;)

I've done hundreds of weddings and these oval vignettes were extremely popular and very good sellers, usually bringing in lots of re-orders. The official tog has already done the arch shot, probably several times over, I don't think they'll notice it's loss.

It's just an idea for Gemok anyway!

I thought Gemok was the official tog! If he wasn't how do you know the 'tog did do the arch......?

In the hundreds of weddings I've done the 'romantic', photojournalistic approach is the way couples are going. All the shots of which we've sold most are of this type!

But, hey! What do I know?

LOL
If you read the original post it is the official tog who's got himself in the shot.

When I was doing weddings, I'd set up the shots and the guests would cluster around me taking effectively the self same shots. I never minded as long as they weren't obstructive, but I used to sometimes say to them, "Why not try to give the couple something different" as it would be of far more value.

doh! I'll up his meds :help:
actually, I never noticed that bit either ha ha!
You can tell we're well suited! :geek:

Ha ha! I never was any good at skip reading - I used to skip the important bits; no change there then! :help:

Mind you what a clever guy, making sure he cocks-up other peoples' shots! ;)

lol. Willies away now then.

The person who wants the shot isn't the bride and groom just a friend who's in japan so couldn't go to the wedding so he wont have the arch shot which yes the pro setup I only nabbed it 'cause the groom didn't look too posed for a change. I may however do the oval crop with a bit of colour alteration a la Marianne's second version for them just to be different. What have you done to the colour Marianne a slight desaturation or is it a filter you've used?

duplicated layer...reminiscing filer from http://www.optikvervelabs.com/ on the top layer, then I lowered the opacity of that top layer by about 50% which just lets some of the colour from the bottom layer come through ;)

Well after a bit of playing and cleaning my Laptops hard drive photoshop really dosen't lik eit when theres only 6mb of free space left. We have .....
Suitless arch photo for bloke in Japan
arch2.jpg

and tinted oval crop for the happy couple if they want it

Nice job Gemok. Really well done!

Well done!

I think Gemok has actually nicked the bit he wanted from another shot as he said he was going to try that earlier. Just goes to show there's more than one way to skin a rabbit. :D

it looks lovely now...did you use that filter?
I used the filter on the oval crop just like you said except lowered the opacity down to 40% as I wanted more colour to come through.

I'm sending the couple a CD of all the photos I took that day, I recon I'll use this shot as an example of what can be done should they want me too. So I'll be knocking up a whole bunch of variations B&W, sepia, different crops, swapping the bride and grooms face around :cuckoo: . All the hard work is done I've got everything in this shot seperated into layers already so can adjust pretty much what ever I like.

Thanks for the advice folks I was going to give up on removing the suit before I saw what PPP achieved.

I'm glad you didn't give up, it was well worth it in the end and a really good shot

Gemok, did you finish the shot in the end, and were the couple pleased with your efforts?

Had another play, see what you think.
