Hi, I'm sure this has been asked before but I had a scan through and couldn't find it so apologies.

I've been asked to start to submit shots of our local rugby/football team to the local papers, this is something I've often done as a hobby but they are now willing pay me for shots...... which is very nice!

However I thought I'd ask as this is now going in a bit more of a pro direction what type of files/resolution of files should I be sending them?

They will be printing shots in a couple of publications and uploading to relative sites, is it just a case of jpeg in a high and low version?....... or is it something else?

Your help and advice is appreciated.

Ask them what file types they want?
I submit to various magazines, and they all have different guidelines.

Ok then to take it down a slightly different route I may on occasion submit a shot off my D800 (my D3 being my main body for sports) and obviously this blighter produces big files- should I chuck them the full sized file or should I reduce it?

No offence but shouldn't you be putting these questions direct to the local papers you'll be submitting to. Only they will have the answers you're looking for.

As I've said, before I asked I just wanted to get a steer from those in the know.

I have now asked the question and they have said if possible to send them files between 1 & 2mb which I though was a bit odd!! ..... I reckon I will just send them at the usual jpeg size of the D3 and try to make it as equivalent if one comes of my D800.

If they ask for 1-2mb (as mine did) then send them exactly that, that's going to be easily big enough even for a full width of a page :)

I seem to recall mine asking for no longer than 3000px too, so 10"

between 1 and 2 mb is standard for local papers.... 2500 px at the longest end and well captioned.. (mine turn out around 1.2mb on average) dont send low and high res they will make there own web pic.. I provide various local/regional papers around the country... this is also the same spec i use for national newspapers..

I always send mine in at 1500 px longest side as requested.
