So one question I get asked a lot... I've got £100 and want a new compact camera.. what should I get?

Like I know everything!!! Maybe we know how to check out the market better because we frequent more relevant forums, sites, shops etc and have a more educated bias regarding brands etc.. Maybe that's why they ask :D

So from your experience what cheap, sub £100!!, cameras are usually recommended?!

Personally, I don't look often because I don't want to make any impulse purchases!!

Just a sidepoint: I'm not buying one. It's a thread for recommendations, in case you get asked, and also where I can put my findings too.

As it happens a mate asked me to look for him this morning.
Ebuyer
It's grade A but at that price I thought it was a steal.

Also saw this one

Personally I'd say get the best Canon one you can with the money, preferably with IS if you can.

I hate that question.
When people come into Jessops, with the question, "I want a really good digital camera for £100,"

And I feel like saying "Really good and £100 don't go together"

I would say probably the Fuji F47fd as well. Fantastic little camera.

Yes! I try to dodge it sometimes :D

If I went to buy another compact I'd be a real quandary because i'd want something with the quality of a g9 at least :D Once you're used to taking quality images (I hope mine are :D) then you feel funny using a compact because you think oooh I could've got this shot much better with my slr. But sometimes you do need a little party camera that fits in your pocket. I use my phone to be honest, that way it's always on me and I don't worry about quality because it's a phone after all (though you can still get a useful image)

That is an absolute bargain for the f47fd.

It also features exposure compensation, something that not every digital compact does, and is well worth playing with as the camera has a tendancy to blow out highlights.

Cheers,
James
