Yes
Not saying all women are bad drivers, but just nearly just went into the back of one (Whoops sounds dirty) Just on a bypass that goes into a single lane so the limit is 60, i was going about 65, and i see a pink smart car waiting to pull out, so as i got nearer, the bloody thing pulls out in front of me, i stamp on the brakes, about to hit her as she pulls away slowly, i have to overtake as i had no choice, and as i go past her, she sticks her fingers up at me, i was shocked, it was a young girl with a mate so i'm not surprised.

Anyway /RANT

I don't understand - you admit to being over the speed limit and seeing a car waiting to pull out and are then surprised when it does so, did you not slow down ?

I am more amazed that he see a PINK SMART CAR and doesn't expect it to do something unexpected!! :whistling: ;)

Lol YV.

@ Kerioak. If I was doing 50 or 45 even, I still wouldn't have slowed in time I was that close when she pulled out, it's just the hand gesture that surprised me.

When that sort of thing happens the difference between 60 and 65 is negligible.

There is a very good lesson you have learnt........

Be aware of pink cars! and of women....... :exit:

If the speedo said 65 he wasn't speeding, I doubt he was even doing 60 , they're miles out at anything above 30mph.

60 or 65 the driver waiting to pull out should have judged it better. If he'd T-Boned her, her saying 'well I thought he wouldn't be going any faster than the limit' is not an argument. Besides, a speedo reading 65 does not mean the vehicle was travelling at 65, it's more likely he was doing a shade over 60, 62 at the most.

im with the OP on this one

car should NOT have pulled out. stupid girl. she is probably one of these who passes their test then thinks they are better than all these drivers with years of experience  :nono:

As an experienced woman driver, driving more than 20,000 miles a year, I see lots of silly young girls doing stupid stuff. They seem to be trying to compete with the idiotic young lads in their cars who drive around at 5,000 revs with their stereos blaring, carving up anyone who gets in their way. Maybe we should make the minimum age for driving 30.:)

When driving you should always expect the unexpected ,but in Dannys defence i find myself nervous of idiotic drivers these days, and i have noticed a trend of people pulling out in front of other cars with total disregard, and not just on slip roads .

5000 revs? My car doesn't get started until 6k. :D

Treat every other driver like an idiot, and you are not often proven wrong. That's my "technique", if you can call it that.

Contrary to popular belief, speed doesn't kill. Lack of awareness does.

as Yv said, you had plenty of warning to get on the brakes,..... as soon as you saw a pink car the alarm should have been going off in your head, then as you saw it was a smart car you should have been selecting reverse, going the wrong way down a dual carriageway is probably a damnsight safer than being in the vacinity of a pink smartcar.

its easy to spot these 'girl racers' they all have 'powered by fairydust' stickers in the rear window....... (then when you get closer its clear that its actually cake and muckyDs shes powered by.....)

There was an accident involving a Smart car outside my work a little while back.

The force of the impact forced the driver (no seat belt on) out of the back. Despite CPR he died in the ambulance.

Not much in the back either if you got shunted, not that i was going to buy anyway

If by negligible you mean one is legal and the other isn't.

Also there's about 40' difference in stopping distance.

Steve.

No, I don't mean that at all. I'm talking about realistic driving here - what real people do. When going from a dual carriageway to single I, like most other drivers simply take my foot of the accelerator pedal. This may mean that for a period of time I am over the speed limit - your point is?

Now back to what I said - in this scenario the difference between 60 and 65 is negligible. Not going into the stopping distance numbers you quoted as they are irrelevant in this situation. OP wasn't having to stop.

we once debaged a a vauxhall vectra 2.5 v6 for a a laugh and stuck on 1.6 badges with a sri on the back

oh it made us laugh all the youg lads thinking they were good setting of from lights untill we hit the throttle and went by them and made them look silly and there mates laughing at them too

didnt seem to happen for a while after wards

wonder why

we jsut got sick of the young idiots always trying to cut us up this is why we did it

Situation like this suggests muppets in both cars - whatever happened to defensive driving? Small consolation after a smash to say you were in the right. Muppet.

now if the OP was doing 80mph he would have been past the junction before the smart car pulled up :)

:bonk: exactly!! I may be a woman driver, I may be 'in' the motor trade, but my god do some of these women embarrass me! I mean PINK FFS!!

By the way, smart cars aside, we have decided that teenage daughter, who wll be driving in a couple of years time, is getting a two seater. My thinking is that with room for only one other blond in the car, there is less chance of distraction. Mind you, she WILL be taught road craft if its the last thing I do :suspect:

edit: 73, that reminds me of a story the OH tells of an old racing boy from way back when - his theory was that if you are going to jump a red light, or similar, do it at 80 rather than 40, you are in the danger zone half the time and if you do hit, you will be dead, not maimed for life! ;)

second edit: I have been told to say that the old boy was landspeed record holder George Eyston that said it.

A friend of mine used to do this with his Scania truck when he worked in Germany. It was the highest engine spec. possible and he could out accelerate Porsches from a standing start if he wasn't pulling the trailer.

A wee story about a local young lassie that passed her test recently.
She got her first car. Subaru Justy with badly rusted wings.
Her father got new wings for it & was going to get the old ones taken off & the new fitted.
Young lassie says to her Dad " I do not want them fitted yet Dad. Wait till I have my first smash & then we can fit them"
To date no accidents!

id have loved to have seen her face when the subaru she was going to see turned out not to be an impreza!:bonk:

As all speedo's overestimate, I would reckon that the OP was going 60MPH or less anyway ;)
