Just a quick question what colour should I paint the walls in my garage studio? I have thought matt black but some one suggested all the walls and ceiling be painted white. I do have a white backdrop.

If you go all white in that small space you are going to get BAGS of spill. even if you use a softbox rather than umbrella you'll still get loads of spill...my studio is a similar size.

Go for black or another dark neutral colour for most of it. at the end where the punter stands paint the walls white if you have the ability to flag them with something, if not go for dark again.

heres a pull back of mine. note how I have black roller blinds on the side walls. I want the light to go where I want it, not where it bounces too. Might even be better with the ceiling black, i have mine white here.

Cheers Cris I think it will be black you confirmed what I was thinking.

Wheels - I painted the walls of my 3x7m studio at work matt black... it's been brilliant for actually directing light where I want it, rather than having it bounce all over as it does with white walls. The only think that can be an issue is if you use the optical slave on your flash heads, on low power settings they sometimes don't see the flash so every head now has to be fitted with a receiver.

Thanks Pat I will look at the receiver issue.
