I would like to set up a small studio. I have yet to purchase either any flashguns or studio light kit. I see that some people are considering using flashgun lighting but is it not cheaper and better to buy a studio lighting kit? Am I missing something?

It's always going to be better to have the right tool for the job, so from that point of view the flash head kit will be better than hotshoe units.
You can obviously use the little flash units for studio work and get great results..... and for still life or product work they would work well.
If you're shooting people though the much longer recharge time and fact that the batteries will always run out at the worst time is a huge pain.
