Morning all,

A question for all the lighting/studio guru's out there.

I have a large(ish) conservatory attached to the house (approx 7.5m x 4M). There are venetian blinds on all the windows and the roof has an opaque white finish.

How feasible would it be to use this as a studio setup. everything I have read so far would indicate I need to be able to control the ambient light, but obviously in this situation that would not be 100% possible.

(for studio setup read 2 X 500W Bowen Espirit's & paper backdrop system)

Looking forward to the replies.

Cheers,

Jeff

Have you considered using it principally as a daylight studio (venetian blinds or other blinds to control amount & direction of light) and adding flash as necessary?

This is how studio photography started and there are some great photographers today who use the same approach.

The alternative is to cover the roof and all the windows. That will then give you a studio in which you can emulate the effects of the daylight you're shutting out...

Agreed, sounds like your going to have to use the available light.

Assuming that at least one of those espirits is optically triggered you may find you have lots of issues getting both flashes to pop! Not only that but to overpower the ambient light you'll be shooting at a high aperture (most likely above f/11) and shooting with lots of power in the flashes.

With that said, whats the harm in giving it a go ?

Let us know how you get on Jeff

Thanks for the replies guys.

the daylight studio option sounds good, I can move everything into the dining room if need be, where I can control the light access.

On a slightly different note, has anyone used the lastolite Lumen8 heads? Warehouse express has some good deals (I think) on their kits at the moment.
