Hi Folks,

Yes yet another thread seeking lighting advise for a fist-timer :)

I would consider myself a competent landscape photographer and so, know all about the importance of light quality. After attending a couple of model shoots I was fascinated by the use of lighting. From a commercial standpoint, after showing my portfolio to people far more ask if I do (insert type here) portraits shoots then try to commission a landscape scene. So I thought it would be another feather in my bow so to speak.

I spent quite a bit of time on Strobist.com and related sites. I love the whole Gorilla type approach, but balk at the ebay/car boot sale trolling, gaffer tape, straws and some cardboard approach.

So I started to look at Studio lighting set-ups. After reading some of Garry's stuff and a little research have settled on one of the Smartflash kits. At £250 it's hard to go wrong I think.

One reservation I have though is needing to be near a main socket. Is there any (cheap/DIY) options to create a portable power pack for these? Something like the vagabound. If not are there any other options that offer Studio Lighting but with cheap portability?

Thanks in advance for any help/advise.

Cheers
John

http://www.innovatronix.com/explorerXT.asp looks like quite a neat solution... but of course the downside of powering mains packs is the presence of mains - so make sure you have sufficient RCD protected distribution etc, waterproof connectors etc.

I will be looking at doing something similar myself at some point.
I would be looking at using a/some deep cycle car batteries, an inverter and maybe one of those storage trolleys to house it in.

Thanks folks.

Has anyone any experience with Innovatronix. Is there a European distributer yet?

In terms of the Lencarta kit, is there alternatives I should also consider?
