Studio light triggering.

Yes
I use my conservatory to set up my lights and use as a studio. This gives me problems in triggering my interfit venus studio flashes as the onboard sensor wont work in the conservatory during the day (too bright).

I got round this by purchasing a wireless trigger and receivers for the lights. This has worked Okish for the last year, not 100% reliable but enough to get by.

I went to use them the other day and they have got a lot worse with false triggering and no triggering at all.

It got me thinking of buying a new wireless setup but once I added up the costs of a wireless trigger and 4 receivers, it begins to get a bit expensive.

This led me to another idea of using the pc-sync sockets on the back of all the flashes with some kind of adaptor to join them all together and trigger them from the sync socket of my D300.

So my question is, can this be done..ie joining multiple light together with sync cables and getting them all to trigger.

I was thinking of some kind of audio cable to plug into the 3.5mm jack of the interfit and using doublers to link them together or am I on the wrong track?

you only need to triger one light as the other should have slaves on them

It wont work in a conservatory during the day as the ambient light is too bright for the slaves to see it and trigger the flash.

I have a wireless trigger and 4 receivers, they are just not 100% reliable. If I went for something better ie skyports, you are talking about £330 for the trigger and 4 receivers. This got me thinking whether hard wiring would be better especially as the conservatory isnt that big (4mx3m) and the cables coulb be kept out the way down the sides.

Yes you can do it :)

I did it with my flashguns off a Pocketwizard where I can trigger two lights of the one radio trigger. One 3.5mm headphone splitter and two cables and off I went. You should be able to daisy chain yours :)

Thats what I like to hear:) This works out the cheaper option and could be worth a try. Time to look on ebay for cheap cables...

I use this one I am sure you can get more receivers and also will work as a remote shutter

It still works out a bit when you have to buy a trigger & 4 receivers. Plus I have been down that route already

Compared to Pocket Wizards?

RF-602 seems to do pretty much what PWs do, in a rather neater package and at a fraction of the price. £80 for a transmitter unit and four receivers seems damn good to me, from our Flash In The Pan here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=157807

I've got five myself. Never use my PWs now (although they give a fractionally faster x-sync speed, ie no delay). Wanna buy 'em? :D

After a bit of research (OK, google) it seems these rf-602's are far better than the older triggers. A huge thread on Flickr seems to regard them highly.

So 1 transmitter and 4 receivers ordered from FITP today. Hopefully this will solve my problems.

Hoppy, PW's are out of my price range.:'(

You don't know my prices yet ;)

But you can't beat those Yongnuos. Amazing value and do everything I want from a basic manual system. Even have a wake-up function if the flashes nod off.

I'm going to wait until Pocket Wizard have sorted out their auto-TTL problems then Youngnuo will just copy it and sell for a fiver. Yongnuo have proved that PW prices are a rip-off IMHO.
