We have a large fan but its a bit tricky to handle, was thinking of an alternative, anyone got any alternatives, I refuse to pay £250 for a fan !

Calumet do a great power fan for £200. I know it's barely under your budget, but it's bloody good.

Do not try to blast someone in the face with a leaf blower... :cuckoo:

edit - leaf blower + studio = http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/pic...af-blower-portraits-by-Tadas-Cerniauskas.html

I have not used it for photography, I have a new small battery power one, one that has not been used so no chance of any debri in it, as it sucks as well as blows, on its best day it could not add a ripple to a face let alone turn one inside out as the picture suggests. I think those pictures are just for entertainment, when you see people flying in the webbed suits with a massive fan under a mesh that supports their body weight and lifts them into the air, they do not have faces like that.

I don't have much experience with leaf blowers, but the only one I have used is this - http://www.stihl.co.uk/STIHL-Produc...rs/Hand-held-blowers/21378-410/BG-86-C-E.aspx and it was pretty powerful, definitely not something to blast at people. :) Guess smaller one would be okay, but still different from a fan. :)

That one looks a beast, more like I should have got for my garden, I do not think the battery one will have the power to do the job, will have to wait for the summer to see, the whole garden is covered in snow at the moment.

I have seen in other threads some people suggest a leaf blower.

that was my thoughts, going to investigate, we are more than capable if making one variable , its only an ac motor.

I just fail to see how bowens fro example can justify there prices, i know its a bit niche, but i have seen £1200+ fans....wow

Leaf blower too powerful?....................stand further away with it....science really works when you put your mind to it.

I'm getting old and forgetting my physics terminology:) But it isn't just about pushing out air, it's about pushing out the right kind of air...

Ordinary fans have a swirly kind of air that goes everywhere. Wind machines push it in a straight line, where it is controllable and will lift clothes, hair etc exactly as required.

As for price, it's a tiny market, they will be made in tiny batches and they take up just as much warehouse space as FMCG, so although the prices seem high, the profits will be low.
