Any difference in content in the student & teachers versions of PS?

Not at all - exactly the same software, it's just the terms and conditions that are different.

It might be helpful for you to know that you can upgrade to the latest retail version at the standard upgrade price too (for future releases) - have had this confirmed in writing by their Customer Service team.

Thanks for that. How strict are the terms and conditions? For example I'm doing a part time OU course, would that qualify?

From the site www.software4students.co.uk:-

What do I have to do to prove I am eligible?
In order to receive a serial number, individuals must provide proof that they are an eligible user of Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software. The following is needed to provide evidence of eligibility:

Students - students must provide a photocopy of a valid, current student ID that includes the student's name, date, and a photo. If the student does not have such an ID, he or she must instead provide a photocopy of a valid photo ID and one of the following items:

•Official, current non-photo student ID with name and date
•Official, current school transcript indicating name of school and student
•Official, current school tuition bill indicating name of school and student
•Official, current report card indicating name of school and student
•Other official dated proof of enrolment
Students who are younger than 18 and do not have a valid photo ID may provide an official letter from their eligible school stating their name and current enrolment status.

Adobe criteria is much more stringent than for other software.
The serial no. comes from Adobe.

Here are the rules of use or FAQ

Do Adobe Student and Teacher Editions have restricted functionality?
Student and Teacher Editions have all the features and functionality of the commercial versions. The software may be used only on a privately owned computer, and the user may not transfer or resell ownership of the Adobe Student and Teacher Edition license.

Is there a time limit on using an Adobe Student and Teacher Edition?
Eligible users who purchase an Adobe Student and Teacher Edition receive a perpetual license that does not have a time restriction.

Can I use my Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software for commercial use?
Yes. You may purchase a Student and Teacher Edition for personal as well as commercial use.

How many copies of an Adobe Student and Teacher Edition can I purchase?
Each eligible person may purchase only one copy per Adobe Student and Teacher Edition title. For example, you may purchase only one copy of Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium Student and Teacher Edition. If you buy an additional copy of Design Premium Student and Teacher Edition, no serial number will be issued for it. You may, however, buy one copy of Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium and one copy of Creative Suite 5 Production Premium.

Can I use Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software on more than one computer?
Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software may be used on two computers only. This is ensured through a product activation procedure, which is performed online.

Can I upgrade my Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software?
Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software can be upgraded to a commercial version when the user is no longer a student or teacher.

Can I resell or give away my Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software?
No. Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software may not be resold or given to others for free.

Can a student or teacher continue to use Student and Teacher Edition software after graduation or upon completion of training?
Yes. After graduation or upon completion of training, an individual may continue to use Student and Teacher Edition software.

Can I use my Student and Teacher Edition software on a computer at my school or university?
No. Student and Teacher Edition software may be used on your own private computer only.

Actually in the UK they changed it for CS4 as well (though IIRC possibly only after starting to sell it). I've always thought it seemed like an entirely unenforceable policy anyway with all manner of loopholes. (e.g. producing a work initially for a course, which someone then offers to buy at the end of course exhibition)

The options they had were to go for a cheaper (£30-40) but time-limited version, or keep the current price and allow commercial use. They will obviously lose money on people buying the current version but hopefully buy some brand loyalty for future versions.

It did seem to make no sense, never knew how they could prove it, though being in a-level during the CS3 years i had no worry about getting paid work!

Thanks guys, guess I qualify. Don't know whether I can justify upgrading from Elements though, I've certainly not mastered that yet:)

Still I suppose the old gear lust might take over:lol:

I do some work with Adobe, and just wanted to reiterate , the Creative Suite 5 Student and Teacher Editions have all the features and functionality of the commercial edition, outside of the discounted price (which is for college students and teachers who meet our eligibility). The cost of Adobe Student and Teacher Editions is up to 80% off the fully-priced product, and you can always purchase commercial upgrades after you graduate!

Here's the link,I hope this helps!

Hmm. My wife is a full time, mature, college student studying towards an HNC and HND. This is a two year course, but not at degree level, which introduces some confusion. It looks as if schoolchildren qualify, but not college students if their course does not lead to a degree?

"University and college students - students enrolled at a higher education institution defined as an accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational college) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two years of full-time study

Primary and secondary school students - students enrolled at an accredited public or private primary or secondary school providing full-time instruction"

We're reluctant to take this step until we are quite certain that she qualifies, because I also understand that Adobe require payment in advance, followed by verification of eligibility, and will not refund if the purchaser fails to qualify. The criteria are defined in US educational terms, and it's not clear how they translate to the UK in context above.

The student verion will work occasionally. The teacher version will stop working as soon as it's asked to do something different.

Just kidding, my mother and sister are both teachers :D

The way I read this is that the college students are enrolled at grants degrees etc. Doesn't say the students have to be enrolled on a degree course though.

Anyone know any different?

My daughter who is 25 is doing a one night a week course at college that offers degree courses and she qualifies. Not that I would take advantage of that:lol:
