I clicked on the link and thought the flash looked familiar. I'd read a blog post by someone who had bought the smaller version - http://paulophotoblog.blogspot.com/2008/11/ba-wang-gy180-flash.html - and had problems with the 'Universal Mount'. Apparently it's 'Universal' due to the fact there's nothing there to attach any sort of modifier on to. Going by the info provided in your link, this version has the same (lack of) a mount.

My opinion is that even if it took such as the Bowens stuff, I'd avoid this sort of flash. I don't know if there's any reason you need to buy a flash soon or not, but if it was me and there wasn't any real hurry I'd wait and try to add to my budget.

unfortunatly thats about as good as my budget is going to get for a long while :(

ive been asked to do some low key jobs, so its a case of buy a cheap and cheerfull now and then with the money i get from these jobs i can buy something better afterwards

Hi, just wondered if you ended up purchasing this flash as I'm looking to get 3 as part of a set including softboxes etc. Is it any good?

Well, whether the OP bought it or not, there's a lot of truth in the saying that if it seems to be too good to be true, it probably is...

250W - that will mean watt seconds, not watts, and if that figure is true then that's plenty of power for the average home studio - but if the seller doesn't even though that flashes are expressed in watt seconds then that isn't a good start.

75 watt modelling lamp - that's far too dim to be any real use. The low wattage indicates that there is no cooling fan.

Full to 1/8th power adjustment - decent ones adjust down to 1/16th or 1/32nd.

Colour temperature 5400K - that's good, but only if it's true. It probably isn't, and the colour will probably vary wildly from one shot to the next. Not important if you're only shooting in black and white but very important if you're not.

Recycling time 2 seconds to 1/2 second - poor.

Universal mount - that means that the reflector is fixed and you'll only be able to get a very limited range of accessories for it.

Not something i'm looking at getting into at the minute (only just ordered my first speedlight), but may prove great advice in the future....thank u!!!

It's amazing how cheaply you can buy a couple of decent strobes for now - Not much more than the price of a 580EX II and in some cases cheaper! Garry will advise on Lencarta but you can buy a couple of D-Lites with accessories for about £450! Bargain considering what you can do with them.
