I've been thinking about doing a Street photography project for a while now just so it gives me something to actually focus on rather than just taking single images of things that may not mean anything.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any project ideas etc and how many photos are normally in a project etc :D

How about doing a '100 Strangers' project. No time limit as such, you just have to approach 100 people in the street and ask them if you can take a portrait of them.

quite like the idea of this especially as im just getting into it really! what do most people do with there projects once they are finished, as flickr etc mainly show just single images i know you can make sets etc but the first thing people see is the photostream?

Depends on how you want to show it. If you are happy to wait until you have all 100 people, you can just make the shots private on Flickr until you are ready to 'publish' them online. Or, you could start up a Wordpress blog to show the whole thing.

Thankyou Think im definatly going to try this and probably like you say set the photos on flickr to private until ive got all the 100 to look through! :)

No worries. Not my idea by the way :D

If you have a look at the projects section on the forum, im pretty sure there was at least 1 person that had done (or was still doing) the 100 strangers.

Good luck with it.

Am definatley going to give this a try! love the idea hopefully will keep me going for a while ;)

Try to have some over-riding reason for taking the photos. Don't just take photos of people for the sake of it. Most viewers will just think "who the hell is this and why do I care?" Give them a reason to care.
Most amateur street photography suffers from being full of quotidian scenes that anyone would see after strolling for two minutes in Anytown, Anywhere. Make them interesting.
