Hi all,

I just ordered a grip for my 5D2 + 85L to help me more accurately handle my camera when shooting at wide apertures (i.e. being able to shoot in portrait mode with my arms help steady against my body, rather than with my elbow up in the air).

Currently my cameras have OP/TECH pro straps, but from previous experience of grips (40D with BG-E2N in the past) I know that the neck straps tend to get in the way when shooting portrait with a grip.

I don't want to risk shooting strap-less... so is there a better option for portrait shooting (or even better, a mix of portrait and landscape shooting) with a grip?

Thanks all!
Steve

I use a Canon E1 wrist strap on my macro body....the shooting is invariably a good mix or portrait and landscape and it works well for me.

I have that one on my 1D and used it heavily in portrait mode yesterday using the normal buttons instead of the vertical grip (sort of) button.
Worked ok for me.
I also have the neck strap attached.

This will be interesting, I use the supplied straps with the D200 and D700, my film cameras didn't come with straps so I use copies. Would be interested in a decent replacement. I was having problems just like OP with the strap getting in the way of the lens at times. Also the strap chafing somewhat

I use a quick release strap. I only ever use a strap these days if i'm off on a walk about.
