Just got my first DSLR camera and I was out trying to take some pictures. When I got back and uploaded them onto the computer I saw there was this strange mark in a few of the images. What could It be?

It looks like a lens flare. That's a light source, often the sun, reflecting off the internal surfaces of the lens or a filter on the front of the lens. A lens hood can be a big help in getting rid of them.

Welcome aboard by the way

I would agree with lens flare. It would help if you told us what equipment you were using, camera, lens, filters etc then we would be able to make a more educated guess, and hopefully help you prevent it happening again.

Thanks for the replies. The camera is a Canon 450d and the lens is a Sigma 28-135. I was using a 4 second exposure with an F4.0.

Did you have a filter attached? I agree that it looks like lensflare, without being able to see the rest of the photo.. possibly from a streetlamp off to one side. Fitting a lenshood and removing all filters from the front of the lens both help control this type of flare, and camera positioning to keep strong light sources out of the flare producing angles of the shot.

You should be able to clone that flare out without it being noticeable.
