We visited Stourhead this Sunday and had a really enjoyable day (Our first trip on National Trust membership). It was very busy and we were directed to the overspill car park, which was free by the way. A short walk through a field and we were at the entrance, no problems at all. Although busy, we were never on top of other people.
We arrived at lunchtime so ate first, food was good quality and hot, though expensive. We a drink, a pastie and a slice of cake, this came to a few pence short of £18.00.
Toilets we good and clean.
The grounds are a dream come true to landscape photography, especially with the beautiful autumn colours at the moment. The lakes are beautiful and the little grottos are brilliant to explore. I guess it is a mile and a half/two mile walk around the lakes but you would never realise it.
By 4.30 dusk had fallen, camera equipment was getting heavy and we were trying to see how to return to the car park from the guesthouse end of the gardens. Can you believe that National Trust provide a shuttle bus (mini bus) to take you back to the main entrance or as we found to the overspill car park. It is free, but there is a tin for donation in the bus, which we gladly put into.
We will defiantly be going back and would recommend it to people to go and visit and enjoy, maybe as a club visit or somehwere to go individually.
