Hola,

Not specific camera kit as such, but an essential bit of kit for an outdoor photographer - the humble umbrella (Humbrella)

Living on the North Antrim Coast I go through standard umbrellas rather quickly due to the wind so was looking at an alternative ... Watching the live stream of the OnLandscape conference this past weekend and noted that Julian had something called a Vented (Storm) Umbrella ...

A quick google search opened up a whole new world of umbrellas (I'm sure someone somewhere out there is rubbing their thighs at that statement) ..

Anyways ... I don't particularly want to spend £50 on an umbrella, but similar don't want to spend £20 on something that is similar in winds to a standard umbrella ...

Anyone got a particular brand that they use in wet stormy weather ?

cheers,

Nigel

I don't use an umbrella while golfing but one of the chaps I play with does. After he'd had 2 or 3 blow inside out and a competition win gave him £40 or so to spend in the pro shop, he forked out for a vented one which hasn't yet blown up. Does act like a sail if when he forgets to set his trolley brake!

Golf umbrellas tend to be quite a bit larger and better built than standard, and being larger are usually vented.

I have one that is vented. Never blown out in strong winds. Only downside for me is that it rather heavy and strains my wrist.

I live in Orkney and up here nobody own an umbrella! Not that it never rains...

I went on a shoot to Salford Quays with @Mr Perceptive and an umbrella. I've never seen a man move so fast when the wind whipped my brolly into two tripods with cameras on top which were perched on the edge of the Manchester Ship Canal.
First and last time taking a brolly on a shoot.

That's similar to Wales, no rainfall, because the rain is always horizontal!!!

I need a Storm Umbrella that is anti-@mickledore :D
