Yes
I suppose I'd better take my gazebo down before tomorrow morning.
I appear to in line for storm Doris or whatever.

It was very windy here on Wednesday night but this morning it was rather nice, clear and sunny. The wind is picking up now and a storm is forecast for Friday. I think the weather forecast said it's expected to be the worst for 30 years and we could get snow.

We've just had a fence replaced and I hope it survives, the last one blew down during the storms before Christmas.

I've heard some Met people say that this advancing storm is the worst for years. The nearest comparison is Dennis in February 2020 which was a European windstorm which became one of the most intense extratropical cyclones ever recorded, reaching a low of 920 millibars. I've had a check outside and brought indoors any loose items. Watering can..recycling boxes/bins I've even tipped the black wheelie bin in the side passage on its side because high winds tunnel down there and it's been knocked over previously. A neighbiour has a dodgy fence panel so I'm sure that will be blown down. Talking about channeling wind. That's what's going to happen through the Bristol channel towards Gloucester. Gusts of 100mph have been forecast . Just a suggestion. When it's light in the morning 7.00am( London sunrise)..Google some webcams on the coast but it can be quite frustrating finding live cams. The only one I know of near Lizard is at Mullion Cove.

Eunice is being described as having 'explosive cyclogenesis' properties. It's where the central pressure falls 24 millibars in 24 hours but I heard one Met Office forecaster say that Eunice is forecast to drop 24mb in 12 hours. The common term for this process is called 'a weather bomb'

For anyone interested here are few links.

Sat24. Radar image of the storm as it progresses. In the SW Approaches at the moment. https://www.sat24.com

Isobar Chart. Lowest to the west as I post (1607) is 992 so it hasn't yet taken that 'explosive cyclogenesis" dive. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/maps-and-charts/surface-pressure

Wind speed map. The thicker the arrow the higher the wind speed https://www.xcweather.co.uk/observations

Speeds mph https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public...&zoom=5&lon=-4.00&lat=55.71&fcTime=1645066800

This is a wonderful image and a great read too on Netweather. https://www.netweather.tv/weather-f...w-pressure-in-charge-for-the-rest-of-february

It included the Jet Stream animated forecast .

Click on 'Animated' top left to see progression with date and time top right which can easily be missed. Note the pink colour..very high wind speeds as per scale on the right side. 190 mph. This is the speed of the Jet Stream not surface wind speed https://www.netweather.tv/charts-and-data/jetstream

There's talk of another named storm..Franklin..to hit the north on Sunday. 50mph winds. https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/derby-news/storm-franklin-could-hit-derbyshire-6673191

This years named storms list https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-storm-centre/index

Latest AROME model has done away with the sting jet, good news for the midlands and east anglia

We're between Redcar and Middlesbrough on the NE coast and this morning was clear and sunny and although the wind started to get up it's now died down. The weather forecast said this storm could be the worst for 30 years and we could get snow.

Quite calm in North Wales ATM, but from BBC site

All trains cancelled Friday and:
Anglesey, Gwynedd, Cardiff, Neath Port Talbot, Ceredigion, Bridgend county, Swansea, Powys, Caerphilly, Pembrokeshire, Denbighshire, Monmouthshire and Rhondda Cynon Taf councils have announced all schools will be closed on Friday.

So looks like its the calm before storm, Dudley yesterday was pretty rough

Staff Member. Could you please either move my post under heading 'Storm Eunice' here or move these posts into Storm Eunice thread 'Breezy' is an understatement for what's to come...thanks.

Tony.. Maybe change your heading and a staff member can move mine here. I think a 'Storm Eunice' heading will attract more posts as we progress through tomorrow as it's going to be a major issue.

Next door has a fence panel down in his garden.

The bad news is that it is one of mine :( fortunately it just flattened some of his grass.
It has only been up about 22 years, and the apple tree has grown so that needs pruning a lot before I can get a new panel slotted in.

Glad we had our fences rebuilt in Autumn.

If you have no other means of getting to work, I'd strongly recommend you take a day off. I've known two people killed riding bikes in strong wind (one a good friend) and two others who 'very nearly' died - one was blown off a bridge. :police:

On the evening news I heard that all schools on Somerset,I think, will be closed tomorrow. I hope RF heeds your advice, Trevor.

I don't know about down in Somerset but up here in Yorkshire it's half term so the schools are closed anyway.

Feel free to delete the thread, I had no idea I was posting in parallel.

Take care, Ricardo. A day off due to bad weather is much better for you and your employer than 6 weeks (or more) off should bad things happen...

Up here in Scotland, it's supposed to be calmer, windy but not scarily so.

We are apparently in for a dump of snow though, which isn't that regular a thing in these parts.

Wherever you are, take care.

We live in the Met Office's RED warning zone and are looking forward to some pretty strong winds tomorrow morning - up to 90+mph!

We've locked everything down in the garden and have our fingers crossed that the back fence will survive. Our neighbour has two panels already damaged so I guess they will disappear at some point.

Stay safe people and please DO NOT underestimate the power of the wind.

All the best, Steve. Hope you come through safely.

Guys, you can't assume "staff' read every thread let alone every post.

AFAIK the way it works is that you 'report' your own post to drawn attention to the need for action :)

It OK, I have nothing better to do :D

Threads merged, And it was very tempting to use the title "Breezy"

You posted first and the general rule is that remains as the header.
But as we have passed the breezy bit perhaps the predicted storm is a better title.

I love a good storm, and I was tempted to sit up and watch it develop.
However, it seems as though it will not really develop and just get a tad breezy, THIS is usually a pretty accurate
way of tracking the weather ..

That’s a really interesting site, thanks.

I've been using Ventusky for a while now. Available as an App too.

We decided to leave Centre Parcs earlier rather than waiting until the morning! Home, part unpacked and time for bed!

Red wind warning for London today, just drove back from there yesterday, after visiting family, hope they're all keeping safe.

Well it’s now 7.14 a.m on the north wales coast ,there’s hardly a breath of wind as I look out of my hilltop front window ,clear sky with a few clouds moving slowly , buts trains are cancelled, schools shut , bin collections cancelled, bridges shut .. has someone in the weather centre started smoking weed ?

We've had a few gusts of wind here but right now it's pretty calm. Even the nearly empty wheelie bin is still standing!

Bristol btw

At 7.00am I thought the wind would have been much stronger here but looking at the wind map it hasn't reached Gloucester. The blue area is 60mph, the orange 40mph. The map will move so you can see your area. Seems by mid-day the worst will be upon us.

Gentlemen. :) As you see from wind map it hasn't yet reached you but be patient ..it will.

Lee. For Bristol tomorrow.

Wind speeds will then pick up again between 12pm and 9pm on Saturday, with highs of 42mph gusts. In Avonmouth, where the brunt of the storm looks set to hit hardest, wind gusts will jump from 50mph to 60mph between 8am and 9am, before soaring to 64mph between 10am and 12pm, when they will begin to fall.

It was much worse here a couple nights back [Storm Dudley I believe] , thought the windows might cave in! Last night and this morn, it's calm here in the Irish midlands, much of the country had been on red alert with shcool closures etc.

I skipped straight to the last posts. Just seen your map. Ventusky. Hadn't seen that one before . I usually use Windy because of the colour coding.

Update 8.20 a.m storm has started ,wind picking up but not yet bad . High tide at 12.15 I’ll see what it’s doing around then and pop down the estuary to see if the surge tide happens
