We live in the Cheshire countryside and get our electricity via overhead cables. We have had power outages in the past but they normally are resolved in 4 hours or so. It wasn't that windy when we went to bed on Friday night but our electricity went off at 03:30 am Saturday morning and after almost two days it has just been restored. . Never had an outage last this long before, apparently the Storm that hit Wales, Scotland and the Northeast on Friday night has wreaked havoc to the network. Candlelight and a single open fire burning logs might be romantic but the rest of the house was bloody cold.

Hope those that are still suffering get their power back soon.

Glad you are back on. I am not sure we could cope as well as we could not have a log fire (no fireplace) and the Gas central heating needs electricity to work. We did have to go without water for several weeks in 2007 due to floods.

We were without power for a few hours a week or 2 back and that was enough! We could have coped with a couple of days but it's much colder now so we'd have to fire up the gas fire and that hasn't been used for a couple of years. Plenty of torches and a gas hob reduced the inconvenience.

Glad your power's back and hope (like you) that everyone gets it back soon.

Glad your back connected to the grid. Good job you had some form of heating.

Its one problem with most modem houses in that they are either gas boiler, requiring electricity for controls and pumps, or electrically heated. As we move forward with electric vehicles such future outages have the potential to be even more problematic.

Seriously thinking about getting a generator to simply drive the oil pump for the heating would make a big difference!.

I really feel for those still without power'
Does anyone remember the hurricane back in 1987 which Michael Fish assured us wouldn't happen.
It devastated the South, personally I was without power for nearly 2 weeks with 2 kids under 3yo
Luckily we didn't lose the water supply, managed to cook food on the open fire and a double gas ring I had
from camping days and luckily we had a back boiler in the fire which was handy
I suspect that now as then, engineers from all parts of the country are out there doing their best. I remember being told
that once they had reconnected areas they would turn the power on and if yours didn't come on you would just
have to wait until they had sorted the majority, then the would come back, but at least you would have neighbours
to help out, which being a small village is what we did.
When we moved we were luck to have an Aga so power cuts not a problem

Glad you are back on...

:) just in time for the next one to take you off again ;)
