Hi all
I've almost filled up my mac book with pics... Need to get a separate hard drive...never used one just got a few questions
When I've dragged all pics onto hard drive do i delete from computer
How do I process into Lightroom, photoshop
Do I delete all pics every were Its a right mess pictures all over the place
Hope can help

Always best to store in two places, I use a second hard drive internal and and external one as well. Every single photo is also on DVD disks as well as taken from the camera. OK may seem over the top but how much value do you put on the pictures? once gone never recovered.

If your computer memory is full there is only one option, transfer all the pictures to a backup ie extrnl hard drive or possibly 2extrnl hard drives and free up your computer

I quite agree - my pics are stored on an external HDD, DVDs, and on Skydrive as well.

I have almost all the pics I ever took stored on these mediums.

I've been wondering about the same as well with the Mac filling up. I back up using two external drives but would it work if I was to directly download the images to another external drive and process them from that rather than from the Mac?

Also, now that the images are on the external drives, can they just be deleted from the Mac to free up space?

I'm using Elements 10.

Drag and drop from mac to external drive will COPY the files not move them, also remember that time machine will be backing up your external drive too, unless to tell it to exclude it.

As extra safety you could use cloud storage aswell. I got 50gb free with 'box' some time ago. Really need to start using it though as I think I've got a 1mb file in there at the moment!
