Looking for advice please. Have collected quite a few acorns, on trays in shed going brown so best way to store for winter?Thankyou, Russ

You want to sow them now they need a cold period I think it's called vernalisation.
If you have a plot and a garden hoe out a line and sow a row like broad beans.
3-4" deep should make them hard for birds or rats etc to dig up but if you have mesh or something covering them is a good plan as it's easy to overlook when you won't see anything until May.
Otherwise set them in deep trays or pots outside. They don't mind being separated later in fact breaking the roots a bit (in winter) helps them produce more fibrous root better for transplanting.

I'd be putting them out for Jays, they love 'em.

Hi
I'd be putting them out for Jays, they love 'em.
That is the idea, last winter had Jays in the wood and only had monkey nuts, yes they showed some interest but sure will be better with acorns but worried about them going off before winter arrives. Thanks, Russ.
