Hi Guys

I have been using an external hard drive to put all my photos on. But at present am struggling with the space on it. A couple of weddings a some portraits and it is full.

Any advice on what I could get with a huge memory.

A mate of mine uses a server with drives in racks, just plug them in and swop them as needed, picked one fairly cheap. personally I use 1 TB or 500 MB drives in pairs (never rely on one drive) and back up to DVD as well.

1.5Tb drives offer the greatest price per gigabyte at the moment, and they are available for as little as £52 +p&p (scan.co.uk) so if you have a desktop i'd recommend one of those. A second in an external enclosure is a good idea to make backup's onto, though don't leave it with the computer, as any bulgars may lift the computer and the backup together and then you are stuck, so hide it in another room somewhere.
(if you just have a laptop, then two external 1.5Tb drives would do)

If you start going into NAS solutions or racks as above you are looking at £200 or (much much) more just for the system and you have to buy drives on top of that. While they would be much more convenient i'd dont really see the need for the extra expense unless you have a huge (ie greater than 1.5tb worth ;) ) number of photos to look after.

Hi

Thanks guys will look into another hard drive.

I always load the pics straight onto the hard drive and then make a copy to dvd for back up. Once I have finished with the customer I then delete them off the hard drive. BUt haven't enough room at present for all the work I currently have still active to keep on one hard drive.

Best get another one then.
