I was sent information on finding stolen cameras, which may be of use to members of "Talk Photography". I am sure it will have limitations but is another resource to trak down the stollen lost camera. If posted before I appologize.
"Most cameras store a small amount of metadata within each picture that they take, in a format called EXIF. This data includes the serial number of the camera. The site at www.stolencamerafinder.com trawls the web, looking inside millions of image files and making a note of each image's URL and the camera's serial number. So if your camera ever gets stolen, use the site to upload a picture that you took with the camera while it was still in your possession. The system will then compare that picture with the database, and show you any other pictures on the web that were taken with it. Which might just help you recover your stolen camera. Or at least help you remember where you left it!"
