Hi folks,

Jumping into the 52 in 2013 a bit late but I am willing to try and catch up :cuckoo: (hopefully improving along the way).

Will try and leave as much feedback as I can to others as well as I go along.

I am very much a beginner and hoping this challenge helps me improve. I have three lenses (kit lens, 50mm 1.8 prime & a sigma 70mm - 300mm) so going to try and vary it up between them.

I will always still do each weeks theme and maybe try an extra 1 or 2 shots of catch-up each week.

Thanks for looking.

This is a bit of a strange one, not to sure about it at all. Kind of thought it would work when I took the shot but I think the brightness of all the other lights on the dash distract away from the direction arrow.

Also seems a bit out of focus but it was dark but still manged to at least get some sort of a shot.

Hi, and welcome aboard....just about to leave for a weekend away so no time for crit, at the moment.

Of the 3 I like the celestial feel of #1, looks like a prop from Star Wars.

Cheers.

welcome in Gregor... a 26 week catchup is a pretty tall order... hard enough getting the one for each week....

good start, first for shape is the pick for me.... love the lines all radiating in to the centre, plenty of detail and nice and sharp too...

letter, the w stands out well due to the different colour and good use of DOF.. wondering if a bit more light might have got you more sparkley bokeh in the background??

direction - good idea, wonder if the light purpley bit running across the lower section doesn;t help things....

not sure how "into" PP you are, but I think cloning out the section of the dial on the right would help too.

Hi Gregor :)

Agree a good start already:

Shape - That's very interesting, nicely exposed, I like the radiating lines coming from it and the crop works well in portrait :)

Letter - Awwwweeee Bless :D you have picked out the sparkly blue W very nicely, nice bright colours and I like the angle and the Depth of Field chosen

Direction - Have to agree with Graham on this one, the light is a tad annoying and also I'd like the other/part gauge cropped/cloned out, nice idea though and I know a difficult one to expose so close up without having to use much PP :)

A great start

No probs, thanks for taking the time to look

Yup could have taken the time to sort that no problem sometimes though you just don't see it when it staring at you straight in the face :bang: looking back now the light was always going to be against me in the car. Actually should have tried giving the car a wee rev to see what effect I could have got off the red dial but then I was going for the direction arrow so that may have been a bit distracting.

oh and your spot on with the blue W as well, tried to open the back door as much as possible to let the light hit the picture but the sun had already moved on too far round the house.

Thanks for the comments greatly appreciated.

thank you sir, I must admit though that was my first go at playing around with the DOF and I took a few goes changing my angle to get the blue W in focus but it worked out not too bad.

Thanks for the comments guys when I decided to go for this and had a list of themes in front of me it actually surprised me how many ideas I had as opposed to just heading out with the camera hoping to see something nice to shoot. chomping at the bit to go get some more done but surprisingly all three of these ideas just hit me randomly, the shape one in particular was just lying on the floor and looked up at the light.

Welcome

Good luck with catching up a challenge on its own

Really like the image for shape nice and symmetrical and interesting too
Letter agree with one of the comments about it being a bit dark but a nice idea
Direction have to agree about cloning out the bottom left

Good start and good luck

HI Gregor...welcome to the madhouse

Shape....LOVE IT , almost minimalist but very effective....brilliant start to your challenge

Direction....quite like that one...didn't notice the lighter area till I read someone else's comments but it doesn't draw my eye...the direction light is the thing that draws me in so for that it's a

Look forward to seeing more from you

Welcome aboard Gregor (Don't listen to her ^^^^^ up above it's not a mad house - there is no house Muhahahaha) ahem, anyway:

Shape - great start! Lovely abstract.

Letter: oh, clever - a letter on a letter - I can tell you're going to be good at this!

Direction: 9/10 I would have got rid of the part dial on the right. (oh and I would have let the engine come up to temperature to get the needle central too - see how it gets you this thing :bonk:)

thanks guys going to try and get as much done as possible, also commenting helps i think, I may not to be able to give expert analysis just yet but even reading other peoples comments on photos I have learned a bit, with I had started one of these challenges last year now.
