Basically looking for a bit of advice on lighting a specific shot really. This is the setup:

It's basically a mock up of a desk, work and ephemera related to an art student and I don't want to rock up with a slapdash final image.

I need to have fairly soft lighting--I don't mind having shadows but don't want them strong or sharp--and ideally there needs to be minimal (if any) reflections in the liquids that are going to be on the desk.

I will be shooting the scene using Portra NC 160 on my Bronica ETRS so I need to have a decent daylight colour temperature but I have a few 15 watt daylight bulbs & lamps at my disposal. I should also be able to hire out a small 3 stand lighting kit if needs be. I don't have access to any studio flashes as the actual photography studio isn't open this week unfortunately.

Any tips or suggestions as to what would work best and where the lights would be most successful?

Can you get hold of copy of Light, Science and Magic? That covers dealing with all sorts of surfaces plus lighting mixed surfaces.
