Yes
After my trouble with some developer R09 which was gone off and ruined my last 3 films. I bought some new developper, this time i went for some kodak hc-110 which i used at the dilution B (1:31), followed by ilford stop and ilford rapid fixer. And also bought some Kodak Photo flo wetting agent to finish the process.

I developed 2 film tonight:
- a 35mm kodak 400TMAX with some quiet nice results
-a 120 ilford hp5

The 400 TMAX came out perfectly but for some reason the HP5 is very sticky, i thought i might have put too much Photo flo so i put the negative back on the reel and just gave it a second wash for 30 minutes inside the paterson tank connected to the running water.

Did I do something wrong? Why is this one so sticky?

They're always a bit tacky. Just let it dry for a few hours.

Yes you're right i was to impatient, this morning the negative was dried properly and non sticky/tacky.
For some reason i'm pretty disappointed with the HP5, it as really poor detail. Much prefer the 400Tmax results.

I have found if its still a bit sticky after drying overnight, its usually insufficient fix, although its not blindingly obvious just looking at the negs in passing, when they are scanned all the blacks are blocked up and the frame is a bit flat = not fixed properly.
I'm not a fan of HP5, too grainy/coarse, Delta 400 4 me

Is that what you call "black blocked up"?
That the worst of the lot and a crop to show better.

With the fixing, i was fixing for 4.5 minutes. Should i fix a bit longer? Any risk in fixing too much?
Also i wasn't sure what to do with agitation:
-during developping i did during the first 30sec and then 3 turn every 30 second
-during the stop i agitate at the start of the 30 sec and at the end
-during the fixing i was agitating every 30 seco
Am I right there?

Also the HP5 took me ages (and ages) to load on the reel, not sure if i was just being rubbish or if it's harder that the other film i put in. But so far it was my hardest loading, took me 15 minutes to get in on!

yeah, it looks a bit like that, like the blacks are much denser than they ought to be, like the detail tails off to black far too quickly.

you can't really over fix

4.5 mins should be enough but it depends on how good your fixer is, hell... I leave mine in for at least 6, it might be a bit ott but I can't be arsed fannying about with fixer cock ups just for an extra couple of minutes..:)

oh wait, whats all that miky white down the right side, that's definitely under fixed

Thank a lot for your help.
I would be very happy if the milky white on the edge is undefixing. I was worried it was light leak! It's the 4th roll through the camera and the first 3 I wrecked due to exhausted developer. My fixer is brand new too so can't be wrong but maybe bad manip! Really hoping for a good roll soon.

Yesterday i used the same camera to shot a slide film of a friend really colourfull exhibition. Really looking forward to send it off to develop.

Edit: all frame where taken in a mater of 10 minutes and some don't have that white milkiness some do...

Thanks, some good advice on the link!
I won't be able to fix it again sadly I'm in holiday at the weekend for a week (what a shame ;-)).

Mine don't have so much fogging like that. I was thinking about the advice that maybe the neg where not fully in the liquid, i did 500ml of fixer as recommended on the tank for one roll of 120. My fogging is only on the edge with the setting writing so maybe it was just limit limit. Next time i'll do 500ml and a bit to make sure they are fully in the liquid and leave it an extra minute for extra caution and make sure the dilution is right but really with 1:4 dillution it's hard to make it wrong!

PS: i was wondering why a 120 takes 500ml when a 35mm takes 290ml so 580ml for 2x35mm when it look like it would take almost the same space in it...

PS2: just remember too that i seems to have put the tube inside the reel in the wrong way which resulted in a leaky tank so i had lost some liquid in the process. Something i need to look into!
