Guys/Girls,

Apart from my DSLR's I use an old (58yrs old) Zeiss Ikon Nettar 2 1/4" x 1 3/" self erecting camera. I've noticed that at shutter speeds of around 1 and 1/2 second it's actually around the 2 second mark. The other speeds up to a wapping 1/175th seem pretty accurate.

I don't use it that often and am wondering if it might be due to lack of use or whether there is a fault (which due it's age is fair). I don't want to pension it off just yet as it's images are still good.

Is there anything I can do myself to the shutter or does it need to see a proper doctor?

You're advice would be appreciated.

It is usually the slower shutter speeds that drift first, or at least they are more noticeable. I've a few old cameras and tbh I very rarely use the slow shutter speeds so if if they are sticking it's not an issue for me.

They do seize up from age but just as likely from a lack of use, you could spend an evening in front of the telly just cocking and firing the shutter across the range of speeds to see if that loosens it up. If that fails to work and you really do want it to be working at its best you could always send it of for a CLA (clean, lubricate and adjust) many folk on here, including me use Miles Whitehead, he's an all round good egg and will treat your camera with the respect it deserves and at a fair price too.

Thanks Nick. Do you have contact details for Miles or is he searchable on the likes of Google?

Thanks a lot. E-mail sent to Miles.
