Week 4: Street - Post 46
Week 5: Speed - Post 61
Week 6: Present - Post 75
Week 7: People - Post 84

here's my first photo for the project, i did originally want to take a photo of the plug hole at Ladybower Reservoir, but with Snake Pass being closed due to snow, i couldn't get to it. i tried to go there today, but as it was closed, when sledging with my son

So for this week's shot I used some of my kid's toy's instead.
first one i did, was just the garage, but looked a tad plain, so i added a car going down the ramp, with a little movement.

not the best, but im here to improve :)

I don't think that garage could look plain with all those colours :D, would have liked to see a longer shutter speed to see how much more motion you could have got from the car. Great use of whats to hand though.

i tried with longer shutter speed, but was too much blur, couldn't make out the car. on that shot i had some cotton tied to the car, with me letting it move slowly

I like it. Nice bold colours, you've filled the frame nicely, and the motion works too.

Good start!

Ian.

Hi Steven,

Great innovation for when you couldn't get the shot you'd planned. Just goes to show what you can find around the house!

Lovely bold colours, lots of curves and nice capture of the car in motion.
The framing isn't quite working for me though, I feel like the garage is a little bit too close to the edges. I think I'd like to either see a closer crop focussing on the car or a wider angle with more space around the garage.

a slightly different take - I'll give you that
the car definitely makes the shot!

Love the motion in the car, for me it makes the shot. Excellent

Seems most people, like myself, have used something around the house for this theme..... dont think the weather is helping.

Great shot, great vibrant colours and as previously stated, the car movement sets it off.

Well done

thanks for the feed back, i may be able to increase the gap around the garage slightly, couldn't do a much wider angle, as my tripod leg's was getting in the shot.

just tried a quick crop, more focused on the car

Thanks, that why i used it, to give it that something else to look at.

Thanks again, yes, the weather doesn't help, not sure if i trust myself out and about with my camera at the min, as i know i'd probably, end up slipping and falling on it/smashing it on the floor :(

Like the new crop very much. just the right amount of motion with the car.

Thanks for the feedback..

I think i agree, i like the cropped version more, now i've done it. Would never of thought about doing that, thanks Sarah :)

I already liked the first shot but the cropped version just simplifies the whole image and creates a greater impact.

A very different and excellent take on the theme, the motion blur of the car really adds to it, and what colours. I really like the crop which as Irus says has more impact

This is very good! First shot is spot on for me. Love the colours in it

Very nice crop. Colours are striking and the motion blur works a treat.

That is a great image, as others have said the bold colours really work.

I think that there is something not quite right with the car, although it's not the motion that is perfect, I think it's the position of the car in comparison to the arch, I think there needs to be some space between the front of the car and the arch.

If you decide to reshoot it could you try to place the point of the big down slope (I hope you understand what I mean) to the bottom right corner, I think it would really help the composition. However, it's a great shot and a good start to the year.

I'm already looking forward to seeing what you come out with during the remaining weeks of the year )

I personally prefer the crop to the original shot. Stunning colours too, as already said!

This theme had me stumped, i not really a poetry person, and didnt have a clue what to do..

came across a poem called Television by Roald Dahl, so used that for the photo

Television by Roald Dahl

The most important thing we've learned,
So far as children are concerned,
Is never, NEVER, NEVER let
Them near your television set --
Or better still, just don't install
The idiotic thing at all.
In almost every house we've been,
We've watched them gaping at the screen.
They loll and slop and lounge about,
And stare until their eyes pop out.

this is just the first few lines from the Poem, the rest can be read here http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/television/

it's not the greatest, i tried to get him so i could see his eye's and the tv, but you know what kid's are like, got a few quick shots in, as quick as i could
This is probably the best out of the few i shot.

I like it, the poem is fun and you have got great colours from the pic.

A good message in it too

Steven, that's worked really well, the shot fits the poem, and whilst you can't see his eyes, it's not a problem for me, The colours are excellent, and I like the clear seperation in them.

I really like this one - the hint of an eye and the colours are fab!

Thanks wanted to get more of his eye in the photo, but couldn't as i'd lose the tv in the background too, wasnt much room in there to mess with angles. It's hard enough trying to keep him still for more than a minute, let alone telling him where to stand and firing loads of shot's off lol

He wanted to look at me, and try to grab the camera more than do what i say and watch the tv

I really like that Steve.
The poem is one that we were read in school - when I was about 10 I think. It's just amazing how many of these threads are bringing back childhood memories.

Great colours and really good definition of the TV screen.
I'd say that you'd got the DOF spot on. Enough clarity on the screen so that we can see what it is, but oof enough so that your son remains the main focal point.

i tried to get him so i could see his eye's and the tv, but you know what kid's are like, got a few quick shots in, as quick as i could

I agree that having the eye in shot would have been the finishing touch to what's already a very good shot (especially if you could have got some of the colours from the TV reflected in it)
It really doesn't detract that much from the image though, and it works very well just as it is.

Loving this poetry shot, as has been said it's all focused where it needs to be and I think if you *had* got the eyes then maybe the composition focal point would have altered too much away from the poem? Just me - great shot.

Note on the curved, I liked the first but the crop of the car on the ramp does it for me, first one I have seen with moving curves, so big pat on the back for that. Would have like to see a bit more colour coming out but that's just me... my thinking being that kisd toys should be bright and in your face.

Arthur

thanks for the feedback guy's - much harder than i thought, this 52 malarkey, especially since im not that creative
much easier to point camera at a car, and flick a button, like im used too.
But im enjoying it at the minute :D

I like this picture - the colours are great and it goes well with the poem :)

Hi Steve - Just catching up with your thread. :)

Week 1: The zingy colours give this shot lots of energy and the motion of the car was a brilliant touch. I love the crop version and could also see it with a little more space round it (despite the impossibility!) combined with Simon's suggestion of rotating the garage so the ramp is pointing to the corner, effectively giving the car somewhere to go. Well done on finding a good substitute for your planned shot.

Week 2: That's a brilliant poem - I love Roal Dahl! and you've illustrated it really well. What absolutely makes it for me is the look of concentration on your son's face and the fact that the colours of the picture on the tv are reflected in his eye. Much better than RD's predicted fate! :D :clap::clap:

Jean

thanks for the feedback Jean & SpidersEye, would of replied earlier, but been keeping out of here until i've shot this weeks theme :)
