You must've been pretty close to get those photos then. I take it you didn't have to crop too much? Very impressive photos ... what kind of ISO did you need with those large-aperture lenses? Can't see a huge amount of noise in the pictures.
Hi Dakid,
The settings for the images, in the order they are in my original post are:
1. F2.8, 1/125, ISO100, 85mm - Canon 85mm F1.2L
2. F2.8, 1/125, ISO100, 85mm - Canon 85mm F1.2L
3. F2.8, 1/125, ISO100, 85mm - Canon 85mm F1.2L
4. F2.8, 1/125, ISO100, 42mm - Sigma 28-70mm F2.8
5. F2.8, 1/125, ISO100, 30mm - Sigma 28-70mm F2.8
6. F2.8, 1/125, ISO100, 51mm - Sigma 28-70mm F2.8
No Flash was used.
As a note, using ISO 100 is pretty unheard of in this type of photography, and I wish I had taken my F4.0 17-40mm lens to get some wider group shots, as I could have still used F4.0at ISO 400.
Most places I go to I end up using at least ISO 400/800, but with the 85mm F1.2 and the 30D still produces some really nice images. The great thing about band photography is that a little bit of noise/grain adds to the image, as long as its not blurred.
As for cropping, certainly not on the first 3, as 85mm from a couple of meters is a very full frame, the other shots have a slight crop, just to remove the odd stray mic stand etc.
As for close, yeah, I was leaning on the front of the stage
Hope this helps.
Alan.
