For portraits with backdrops yada yada, posed and pretty much posed images, what in your opinion is best?

Continuous, static light or flash?

I'm a little confussed as to what I want to use so I would appriciate peoples opinions on what they think is best and why.

I'm thinking, atthe moment to use static continous light

ahh that's a very good point.

I'm a bit nervous TBH, I was telling my SIL about my project, that I need portraits etc and now half the family are coming up at various times through the week to be my guinae pigs *blushes* Still though, I can bribe BIL into doing the garden for me now haha

Still need to work out what's going to be best though. I mean I'm setting up the hall as a makeshift studio, probably using cheapie lights (lamp shades are white glass type things so should have a soft box effect) Maybe I should just experiment with both?

One problem you may encounter is with your white balance, so read up on how to set a custom one with your camera, just in case.

Hasn't your flash arrived yet?

no, I'm gutted. Ordered it Wednesday but they wrote the expiry date of my card down wrong so it declined, but they didn't let me know til the next day. Called Thursday and paid, promised next day delivery. Parcelforce promptly send it to the wrong depot and didn't arrive in Newcastle til Saturday. On the tracking thing it says it's out for delivery (last report 7am Saturday). Truly gutted!

:( In the meantime get yourself either some radio triggers or an off-camera cord for it and look out a white bedsheet ;)

It would certainly help :)

7dayshop for the stand - £10.99, delivered

You'll need an umbrella adapter too (£10-20)

I'm gutted, the flash didn't come (the lens did) and now I can't find another flash in time for tomorrow or Wednesday within buget :( gutted

Anyone got any ideas?

Tried warehouse express place, jacobs digital and karle or whatever they're called, but none have the metz one in stock :(

On a happier note though, I got a proper backdrop and stand :) *blushes* so that's kinda where what was left of my buget went :(

thanks

I got a couple of umberellas sorted and a stand, got a flash too and kinda splashed out and bought a proper backdrop. *blushes*

Still need a black sheet though (for the floor, couldn't get a backdrop with a curtain in my budget) other than that, I'm all spent up :(

Been thinking of doing a project for a fund raiser for Church but not sure if I'd be able to manage it (regardless of technicalities) cause I had to cancel a shoot on Wednesday cause I wasn't well enough to do it :( but that's another story for another thread...
