I'd like to try my hand at some macro photography. No creepy crawlies, just a few watch faces, plants etc. However a decent macro lens comes in at a few quid so I've been looking 2nd hand, specifically manual focus lenses.

If I went for something such as this:

(a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 (pre Di)) I realise that I will only have manual focus. But presumably I'll have to set the aperature manually too? I think this might be a good thing - help me learn a bit more. What do think?

And what's the best way of doing this - use the built in exposure control of my D90 to get it approximately right?

I don't know about the quality of this lens. But, it being manual focus for macro work is fine as you will nearly always be focusing maually anyway. It may be worth trying to pick up a secondhand Raynox DCR-250. It's and adapter that clamps onto the end of an existing lens.
