Starting in off Camera flash?

I have used a softbox once and it was quite cool.

For portraiture etc, im thinking of maybe getting some off camera/lights/flashes etc in.

I have a Nissin Speedlight, debatable on its wireless capabilities.

I have seen this

But what i want is to know how to learn and what to get for a beginner?
Im not sure on direction as yet, but any pointers would be great...

So after doing some reading here, my apologies for not using sticky.

I am getting a reflector of ebay.

But im not sure whether to make a cheap umbrella or get a softbox kit?

Start with an umbrella, no point in spending more than you need at the beginning. Once you are comfortable with using the umbrella/reflector combo then you can invest in a softbox if you feel you need one.
