Right,

after some issues I am now in the position to get some toys again :D

Problem is D700 or 5Dmk2

What do I shoot?

Everything theartre shows, motorsports, football, studio portraits and landscapes.

Lens which will be bought include a macro with IS/VR in the 100/105mm range and a 70-200mm f2.8 vr/is lens for sports.

I'll then pick up a medium zoom for general stuff.

Now, am I going miss being able to crop an image more heavily for footie and Motorsports if I go the D700 route? Or am I going to miss the cleaner high iso of the D700 if i go mk2?

I've tried both and cant make up my mind! ooh how a lottery win would be nice.

help me please!

Judging by your signature it looks like you were a Canon user previously so I'd assume you'd have a preference to go back to canon. Either camera is going to be very good and the ISO capability of either is better than the 50D you have/had.

If you are really starting from scratch then you need to draw up a list of the pros and cons of the entire package of body lenses and flashes that you'll need and see whice will do the job best.

Sports, go with a D700 or used D3. High ISO and focus acquisition system rules on these. I don't think the ability to crop a bit more overrides the focusing ability and high ISO myself. I personally find high ISO to be very valuable.

Just keep in mind that overall Nikon seems to be a bit higher priced than the Canon equipment. Then again, I just worked with a guy who is going Nikon after 25 years on Canon. He's getting a D3s and some other toys. D3s really takes the cake. I also think you will like the Nikon CLS flash system for those occasions when you use it. Nothing wrong with Canon, I just think Nikon is doing very well at the moment.
