Hi all,

I'm looking at getting my first DSLR to see if I can get into it, learn the basics and move on from there.

I've got an initial budget of £200 and was looking at maybe a cannon 30D after reading things on here and other places. I can get a used one on eBay for that kind of money.

What do you think? Good idea?

Cheers

Mark

I was in the same boat as you a little while back. I got a 20D, canon 35-80mm lens plus a couple extra memory cards and batteries for under two hundred. I'm going to use it for at least the next couple of years while I learn. I'm really happy with the results so far...

Thanks everyone,

I bought an old gorgeous 35mm Pentax a few years ago but managed to mis load the film and just generally make a mess of trying something I've always wanted to do. I always thought a digital dlr was our of reach due to the cost and my computer was on its last legs. The computer is now sorted and I've got a bit of money so I'm gonna give it another go.

Cheers for the advice!

Buying used for £200 you have the choice of older but better models in their day like 20/30D or D40/60 or newer entry level cameras like 1100D, D3000.

The older ones will be better made and feel much more solid (and heavier), the newer may have video, higher MP and generally better image quality at higher ISOs (at low ISOs it may be hard to notice any difference)

I recently had a 20D and changed to an 1100D as I wanted a very light DSLR as I carry it around in my hand when walking around for an hour or two at a time. Other than the build quality I prefer the 1100D although hard to say why.
