Yes
I have 2x 580EX II's and need two stands to hold them up. Ideally I'd be able to use a umbrella with these. Could you tell me where to get both of these?

Actually, is it possible to put softboxes on these?

you can buy some softboxes that have a hotshoe mount on them, but they're a more specialist item than brollies. teamwork do some iirc.

You can get reasonable quality stands from 7dayshop for £11 each shipped, brolly mounts, Jessops have some down to £5 or £10 atm, or you can go ebay, or calumet (the calumet own brand ones are exactly identical to the manfrottos iirc, but £10 cheaper)

edit: a +1 for the lastolite softboxes if you've got the cash, played with one a couple of times, really quality bits of kit. don't believe the 'only eats 1/2 a stop of light' thing though...

Ebay is a good place to look. otherwise any studio equipment supplier should be able to help. I for one want the Interfit strobies stuff to hurry up!!!

Does anyone know where you can find black/white reversible umbrellas?

I have 2 Wescott collapsible umbrella's, can be used as both a shoot through and a silver reflector.
I could only find one place in the UK that sold them and the postage was £20 - to Birmingham! FT.

So I bought mine from MPEX in The States :|

Still not exactly cheap but I have back problems and invested a couple of hundred euro in much lighter gear, like these manfrotto nano stands. The Wescott brollies are a little shorter in length to a folded down nano stand and fit easily into a stand bag. I shedded about 2 kilo in the end

Take a look at this kit. Even with shipping, it's a darn good deal. I have it and I love it, use it all the time :)

How much did you pay for shipping and VAT duty mate? Altogether?

I live in Denmark, so our VAT system is slightly different. (Think rape without lube and you're almost there) The shipping can be calculated right at B&H's site, UPS worldwide saver is fast and relatively cheap. With the worlds GREATEST tracking service to boot. Usually takes 2-3 days from pickup at B&H NY to delivery at my door here in Denmark :)

That looks very good. Is it everything I'd need to attach my 580EX II to the top? As in, does it come with the hot shoe?

Why does anyone still supply metal hot shoes for light stands? It's frustrating when you get it and realise you need to use tape on it.

Incidentally, if you're buying swivel adapters for umbrellas, make sure your umbrella will fit in the holder... I just got a couple of swivel adapters that are too small for my umbrella so am having to take a drill to them!

I'm the same, which is why I'm worried ordering the bits from 3-4 different shops/stores. I'd like to buy everything from one place and get confirmation that it'll all fit together nicely. I e-mailed a guy on eBay about these stands I really liked, but no reply. I found a guy in America selling the swivel bracket and although I've e-mailed him 2-3 times I still can't get my answer out of him. I've been there myself in the past, order something from another country and it turns up being not what you expected so you're lumped with it as it'd cost too much to return it.

I keep asking him if the mounts will fit the stands I'm buying but he dodges the question. The part that connects to the stand looks a LOT bigger than the tripod-screw-sized head on most of the stands I'm looking at and I don't see a adapter included.

I'm considering these stands with these heads and umbrellas. Can anyone have a look and tell me if they'll fit together OK and take my 580EX II's without needing anything else?

pretty sure that the stands you just linked to are the same Konig ones as 7dayshop sell for £11 each, shipped :)

yes, those mounts should fit those stands.... they don't screw onto the tripod screw, they fasten on to the shiney metal bit at the top of the stands.

Can you link me to the stands? I couldn't find 'em when I looked.

Would you say those eBay umbrellas and mounts look OK?
