Guys,

Any ideas appreciated...can you think of a way to batch stamp a 300 photos, with a unique numerical value starting at 001? Even better, with a filename? I mean a visible stamp on the photo itself, nice and big...along the bottom left.

Ta,

Gary.

A small program called FastStone Photo Resizer will do that. It allows you to batch re-size, re-name, add text to the image (such as the file name) and if I remember correctly, it was a free download.

The program lets you position the text to the left, centre or right, along the bottom edge. I know the program will allow you to rename your files to include 001, 002 etc, though I have not tried to rename my pictures like that and then add the file name to the image in the same operation. It wouldn't be too difficult to rename first followed by adding the file name as text if you can't do it in one go.

It also has a variable list that will allow you to also add some information from the Exif data should you so wish. The options within the add text function allows you to choose the size and font of your text as well.

ETA I have just tried a rename and add text in one operation and it works fine. I ran a small batch to rename some pictures Image001.jpg, Image002.jpg etc which it did, and it then added the amended file name to the image as text.

You can find it here http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm

Hmm I was about to suggest a quick way to rename built into windows but not sure if OSX has the feature.

I don't think many people know this but if you highlight several files in windows explorer and rename as usual they will all have the same filename but with a sequential number at the end.

...rather than renaming one by one in win explorer..

There's an OS X version of XnView (freeware for private non-commercial, educational use and non-profit organizations; otherwise 26€).

Use Tools > Batch Processing > Transformations > Image > Add Text > Parameters

I use a three digit identifier on the image, and added to the filename (to help me identify the original). That way, the customer is unlikely to ask why any are missing from the sequence, as not many download and save images from a webpage.

Seems the OSX link is missing, thanks for the info though - looks like it could be very useful.

Cheers everyone,

Photon having read their forum, looks like the OSX version *might* be missing some features planned for the next BETA.

I ended up downloading a program called GraphicCoverter and other than some VERY ANNOYING nag screens, it has worked perfectly.

Gary.

You can do this in Lightroom using Mogrify.

It's under text annotation and you can pretty much put anything from the files metadata as a stamp.

Here I've just used the filename without extension

These are the settings in Mogrify (metadata is under "Add Token")

Also Jason,

Not sure if this is my problem or not (ISP)...I see you are hosting these images on your site (tells me in the bottom left, says transferring data)....anyway, the photos appear to be downloading about 5 lines at a time every minute or so. I can see about an inch of the top of each of your photos / screenshots at the moment...

Thanks for the heads up, they're hosted on a box (small virtual server) in my loft, not on the main site, so it may be my side that's slow, I'll go check the box.

No problems with the image here ;)

Yeah, those images are taking a while to download here too.

But back on topic, LRMogrify is a great little bit of software!
